Hi, Has anyone come across a sticky speedo on Ferrari 550 Maranello before. Speedo sticks at 70mph a lot of the time and can be over-reading or under reading. It is difficult to diagnose if it is the sender unit, the speedo or something in between.

Apparently it is a big job to replace either the sensor/ sender unit (which I understand is quite inaccesible) OR the speedo (remove entire dashboard) involving hours of work for either fix.

Can anyone provide any sage words of wisdom??

Have you tried tapping on it like the pilots did to the fuel/oil gauges in the old WW2 movies? It seemed to work for them. I have not experienced any speedometer problems and I have a Euro car. Taz or (FBB) Fatbillybob will probably know off the top of their head.

You do not have to remove the entire dashboard to remove the speedo. There is an excellent thread on the entire dashboard removal.

The instrument cluster can be removed by taking the steering wheel surrounds off and then the cluster. You can then take the speedo to an instrument shop for testing.
