Whats with our section of F cars that are for sale. Every time i check there seems to be one or two cars added, however there are none that are falling off. Are there no buyers out there right now? Is the economy taking its tole on Ferrari buyers as well? Whats this going to do to the pricing structure of F cars? I have looked into what is selling on ebay and it seems to be just the cheater type cars(cars with higher miles and very good bargains). If you look at ebays completed listings it seems scary to see that there are only about 3 cars over the last 3 months that have actually been sold thru ebay itself. Now im sure that some there were some that sold outside the auctions, but what the hell is happening here? It seems as though sellers are going to have to reduce pricing alot in order to sell some of these cars. SUPPLY AND DEMAND!!!!!!!!!

But what about ebay. I look and see the same cars running over and over and over.

I've been wondering about this as well, at least w.respect to what this economy is going to do to F prices, particularly the 'entry level' 3X8s. I have a feeling there will be minimal impact on 3X8 prices, maybe a ~$5K drop. But I'm no EF Hutton so what do I know.

As far as ebay I've noted the same thing and last time I spoke w.an auction's seller (a dealer) he said rarely do they sell through ebay; that ebay serves as a marketing tool and most ebay cars sell after the fact.

it does serve as a great marketing tool, however if you watch week after week there has been the same cars running, and the ones that are getting any action at all are recieving rediculously low offers and bids. ive been watching for awile and the same cars are getting to the same money (as far as bids go) every time they run and they are not selling. These same cars are being advertised on different websites as well. How cheap do they have to get to sell these cars? It seems to me that alot of people have taken a hit with the economy and are trying to unload their cars for full retail plus. On the other hand the few buyers that are out there right now are really trying to steal these cars. Whats this going to do with pricing? I know that Ferraris on the used market lose less percentage of depriciation than say a Cadillac or any other "regular" car. Is the used Ferrari market pricing slipping into the tank with the rest of the economy? It just seems that there are alot of cars and not alot of buyers.

I think that's true of a lot of eBay cars; however, I've been watching the market for about three months and 360a are not selling for the most part. Occasionally an exceptional car will sell quickly at the price you would expect, but otherwise, it seems that only the cars that are real bargains are moving. A lot of early 2000 cars with around 15,000 miles priced between $115K and $120k have been sitting on the market for months, and I see a lot of the same cars cycling through eBay over and over again. I have an auto dealer friend who was showing me sold auction prices on 360s at one of the largest auto auctions on the east cost (Manheim, PA), and I was surprised how tight the prices are between auction and retail. I suspect a lot of dealers are in a very bad position right now and just can’t price their cars for any less without taking a loss.

I think you hit the nail right on the head. If cars are not selling, that means that there are not any buyers at the price offered.

I think you are right on this one. Alot of dealers are in a bad place with alot of their inventory not just F-cars. I was in Marshall Goldman on Tuesday of this week just kicking around and they have a huge inventory of F430s and 360s on the showroom floor. They look really cool sitting there, however I would not want to be responsible for floorplan interest that they are accruing while these cars just sit. take a look at a dupont registry from 4 months ago and you will see that dealers have basically the same cars at the same prices and they are just sitting going down in value with the rest of the economy.

Wish I knew the answer to this - it would dictate whether I go through with a PPI on a 328 tomorrow! But the question there is 'by how much will prices drop over the next few months' - is it enough to warrant sitting tight and seeing what happens? Or does one go with it now since happiness/stress of searching/etc is worth something, for some not worth what relatively insignificant savings that may be had? I went through this in July when I bought my house - my gut and better judgement told me to wait, that I'd do better as the mortgage crisis continued it's depth and ripple effects. But conditions dictated we buy at that time; we probably could've done better had we waited but by how much? Same thing w.Ferraris - hell it's easier and more fun to rationalize jumping into one now under this analysis.

I know of a 328 that was ebayed at least a couple times over the last few weeks that was just picked up by a new F-Chatter so I know that they're not all stagnating!

My personal feelings on your situation is like this. I dont believe that cars such as the 308 and the 328 will go down in value much more than maybe $5k-$8k, however the cars that are flooding the market are the 01 02 03 04 360s, there are a ton of spyders, these cars have to come down because there are so many of them its crazy. Just about all of them are priced as though it is still 2001 and the economy is alive and well. Think about this, look at 308s for an example. A 1979 model is usually very closely priced with a 1985 model, it really doesnt make a difference what you want to buy except for the basics, whether you want carborated or fuel injected they are all in the same price range. This being said, at some point in time 360s will be priced about the same whether you are looking for a 1999 or a 2004. There is still such a spread there that it doesnt make any sense to me why someone would buy an 04 360 spider for $40 or $50k more than a 1999 or 2000. If you are able to pull the trigger now on the 328 that youve found I would say go for it. But for anyone in the market for a 360 I think that there is no point in paying the extra money for a newer car that looks and drives the same as the earlier years.

Mike, I know you know the answer to your own question here...For $40 a week a dealer gets some 3,000 views of there cars of that 3% call and the dealer tells you the cars been sold...He then can go out and find another car just like it for you...It is very cheap marketing...A good gauge of whats truly on the market is wholesale networks Mike..Being that you are in the business as well...you know that when you do not see the cars moving retail yousee the auction houses fill up..and this case you do not...also if you look at the buy it nows on ebay...the prices are up for just a few weeks ago...Just a month ago there ware over 150 360 listed at ebay...after our database update...the list went down to just 87 cars....

Seems like about 60% of 360 production is on ebay at any time.
