this is utter nonsense... more like mid 12s at best.... these are non confirmed numbers are owners.... no verification... if thats the case, then i ran a 10.7 1/4 in my 360...i saw it with my own eyes...being a corvette owner and club member for many years, i can tell you many vette owners were very full of it!!!!

 

Jeez, don't get so worked up. Take a deep breath and calm down. And I assure you that very few Vette owners I've ever met (I used to go on mountain runs and cruises with quite a few) have been "full of it." I'm sorry if that was your experience, but there are bad apples in every crowd. Including Ferrari drivers.

Hmmmm, what a silly comment. Please name a single Ferrari road car that uses a F1 engine. The F50 is the closest and that is it, the next closest would be the 246 Dino as the '58 Ferrari used a 2.4 v6 but probably has nothing in common.

Now lets think about 6 cylinder F-1 cars:

'57 - Maserati 250F, Fangio's 4th World Championship.
'58 - Ferrari Dino, Hawthorn's only WC.
'60's - Ferrari sharknose, 2 versions of a v6, one 65 degree and the other 120 degree.
80's - Hmmm lets see Renault Turbo engine, Ferrari Turbo engine, I'm pretty sure that Honda made a v6 turbo too and the best of that period Porsche's TAG Turbo v6. A master piece, driven by Lauda and Prost to destroy the rest of the field.

There are probably ones I have missed but since engine size is so large nowadays and turbo's banned more cylinders is the current go.

Now lets review your first rediculous comment, knocking the NSX because it does not have an F1 engine. Hmmm, Ferrari's current F1 inspired Enzo ALSO does not use an engine that has anything to do with F1 ... and why should it, and also why should Honda. A full race F1 engine would be a completely useless piece of **** in a road car ...

My biggest critisim of the NSX is Honda's marketing insisting that they sell it with the VTEC system. On a high performance motor and car like the NSX that was a complete waste of time. The NSX already had very aggressive cams thus you gain bugger all with that technology ... far better suited to making an Accord perform like a rocket and still do the grocery run.

I do have to agree with LAfun2 and the other poster ... your selection of cars to replace the Ferrari with will have exactly the same issues, except maybe the Subaru and Mitsi. Strange to me ... if driving is your passion you need to move

I might add one car: a Subaru Legacy B4. Very plain looking car that will give a Impresa WRX a run for its money ... a real sleeper, which to me is what you need.

The only thing the Enzo's motor is got from formula one is the variable valve timing and the inlet manifolds.

 

That I have to doubt ... F1 motors use compressed air as the valve springs, road motors don't (yep even the awesome Enzo ... as you need the mechanic to pump up first before starting). Thus yes both engines might use variable valve timing, but so does a Toyota Camry ... just the principle ... like both engines have crankshafts and con rods, etc.

I also think variable valve timing was first used for road cars to spread the torque curve ... since F1 does not care about torque (especially because the fly by wire accelerator ensures that the torque curve is perfectly flat) then I am really surprised to hear that F1 motors employ this technology, and thus extra complexity and weight ... but they may well do.

As for the inlet manifolds are we saying the Enzo has variable length inlet trumpets that change length based on revs, etc. ... way cool!. Most road motors simply have 2 different routes for the air to travel and a simple butterfly to switch from one to the other (ie. 550, etc.).

Because besides the performance of the NSX for 80 grand you are buying a hand built car, aluminium chasis and body, extremly good looks, rear mid engine, etc. Not a piece of **** with inferior materials, ugly looks, front mid engine, theres one in every corner, and in ten years the interiors are all falling apart, besides is an american car it is just crapy no matter how fast. Corvette even the name sounds stupid.

You said here very clearly that the F1 cars that were Honda powered (inferred) did not use the NSX engine.

The ridiculous (spelling corrected) comment is the comment relating F1 engines to road cars ... where did you ever think that happened???

Maybe f-1 does not mean Formula 1???, and thus while I appreciate the written word is not the best communication method maybe you should help us readers out and make your point clearer ... mate!. Came across as a pointless I hate the Honda NSX comment because it does not have a F1 based motor ... I am not a fan of the NSX either but I understand that it is emotive based, not necessarily a rational point of view.

I mean no offense with any of my replies ... this is the internet and as I have found in the past via emails to my own family, things can come across very differently to what was intended by the written word ... especially a hurried post between important things

 

Ack, cough, giggle. Um, you can get a Viper for the cost of one of those and the hp would equal 3 of them combined. The Ferrari is to stare at, and the Viper is to beat the rest of the cars on the street into submission. Look at it as the big, tough as hell brother to the Ferrari. If some car picks on you in the Ferrari, simply run home, get the Viper, and proceed to pummel him into submission with 50-60 mph burnouts......

Sorry I never even thought of the Viper. Seems like a lot of guys that love 308,348,355 get into Ferrari because of the mid-engine feel, balance, steering, cart like handeling... and when a guy like this, ask what he should trade his 348 in for ?...

American cars like Vipers and Vettes never even enter my mind. I think of them as Drag Cars or Muscle Cars. A different kind of sports class
