One glaring difference between Ferraris and many other sports cars is the lack of "full" consoles in two-seater Ferraris. In fact, I've only seen full consoles in 550 Barchettas and 348's.

I clearly haven't looked in every F-car; but, can anyone explain why many of these wonderful cars' designs do not have full consoles? I'm just really curious about it...

I do not know what you would condsider a 550 console, but I wish it had a coffee cup holder :))

Sorry about the ambiguity...what I mean is a console that joins the underside of the dashboard and the between-the-seats console just forward of the shifter.

I'd post a couple of pictures to show the difference; but, the "[pic]" codes are turned off on my account. Here's links to two interiors showing the difference:

    First, a 355 interior: http://www.dupontregistry.com/largeimages/2005112932413436_573172.jpg

    And a 348 interior: http://www.dupontregistry.com/largeimages/2433_11318(4).jpg

Thanks for the explanation. I actually prefer sports cars without "full" consoles. Having the full console adds too much visual weight (and of course real weight) and clutter. I think the 360's center console is just about ideal, as were earlier 911s.

Full center consoles are more appropriate for GTs, not sports cars. And if I see a nav screen (or equivalently large LCD panel) in the center console, I no longer consider it a sports car! But that's just me... :)

    Agreed.

Incidently 512TR's and 3x8's do not have full consoles either.

Full console-less is just as common if not more so for Ferrari midengined cars.

It is more common for front engined cars, trany and drive shaft location for one reason.
