When gasoline goes to $10 a gallon (already better than halfway there) will you want a Ferrari. Sent from my LM-G710VM using FerrariChat.com mobile app
a) I don't believe it will get there - there is plenty of gas to go around and always has been - it is just where we source it and how and associated political factors (stopping short of P&R) that impact the price. b) Yes - I will still own my cars (2 Ferraris, 1 Porsche, 1 Hellcat, 1 Jetta) - With the exception of the Jetta I knew going in they would be expensive to own whether it be maintenance, insurance, storage etc. and gas costs are all part of it - I am certainly not selling my dream cars I have worked my butt off to own just because it costs a bit more to operate them - just me. c) If any/all of the factors get to the point that either I cannot or choose not to afford any/all of them then I will make that decision - but gas costs alone are a very small portion of the equation. Good question/thread - I am sure like anything you will get varying opinions and input but that is my stance FWIW - Cheers
It's not too far from that level in many European countries (translates to 2.3 EUR/liter). In Germany, where I'm based, we already went over the 2 EUR mark for the good stuff which most of us would fill into their Ferraris (Shell 100 or Aral 102), and many European countries are more expensive than that. Wouldn't even think about not wanting a Ferrari. I do understand, though, if that impacts decisions for daily drivers, although (relatively) people buy M3s, Audi RS, Quadrifoglios etc. now, because it might well be the last chance to buy real cars before everyone goes electric.
Really? I can definitely see how that would be a factor in a daily driver, but I doubt anyone cares about fuel costs in a Ferrari. (I don’t remember what my 328 did in terms of mpg, but I’m lucky to do 16 mpg in the 911/964.) Sent from my iPad using FerrariChat.com mobile app
I buy like 6 tanks of gas per year in my Ferrari... Between registration, insurance, maintenance, gas is the cheapest aspect (and still would be)!
I had a gigantic motorhome (45' with tag) during the last gas crisis when diesel was just about $5 a gallon. I always found it curious when folks would ask me about gas mileage and cost of fuel since the darn coach cost about half a million, the cost of fuel wasn't even belly button lint. Same with a F car. When gas stops being sold at corner stores (they used to call them gas stations), we'll be buying our fuel at Home Depot in metal cans for $25 a gallon. Would that matter? Not to me.
I couldn't even tell you what mileage I get in any of my cars. When they're empty, I fill up. End of story.
I own shares in some of the oil majors. When oil and gasoline prices rise,I make much more in extra dividends than I lose at the pump.
Yes. Why wouldn't I? The bigger question is will all the guys driving Ford and Chevy F5500 trucks that are 10 feet tall still drive it to pick up groceries from the supermarket?
What's the avg yearly mileage on a Ferrari? Probably less than 2k or 8 fill up or 8*20*$10=$1600 per year to drive it vs $800 now. Not gonna change much if at all.
Im already paying over $10 per gallon at the 101 pump gas for my 89 328, still here in Ca, the normal octane gas prices are insane, the greed in this world is beyond sickening . Thank you
If gasoline goes to $10/gallon, a Tesla Model 3 will cost $100K, and electricity will cost $0.50/KW-hr. Making expensive BEVs, solar panels, and wind turbines uses a lot of fossil fuel, and electricity is not an energy source.
If gas goes that high, then oil prices will be $200+ per barrell, and we'd all have FAR bigger problems than fueling a Ferrari.
I remember a number of years ago Cadillac had a V8 engine that could shut down 4 cylinders for fuel economy. I have two V12 Ferraris, I'm going to look into getting that system installed so I can run on just 6 cylinders all the time.
Heh. Ferrari built that system into the 308s/328s, and gave us a nice "slow down" light to let us know when it was active
This reminds me of the last time gasoline peaked and people with giant SUV's were complaining about the price. You knew going in it was not going to get good mileage. If you are worried about the price of gas, then how can you afford a Ferrari in the first place. You cannot eat lobster on a hot dog budget.
Back in 07/08 when gas prices went through the roof, I was able to get a smoking deal on a new pickup. The gas prices are memory, the pickup is still in the driveway Maybe if gas prices skyrocket again I'll be able to pick up a cheap Ferrari from the poverty-stricken owners . . .
Yep - The Information company I work for is primarily Financial Services, Energy and Automotive - When oil/gas prices rise or fluctuate our customers need/use more information and hence our EPS/EBIDTA numbers are better which relates to higher share price - I realize it sucks for the normal person who DOES manage/track gas mileage and with everything else going up on cost I realize $5/gallon+ fuel DOES impact people managing tight budgets and trying to make ends meet so not minimizing the impact or taking an elitist view but since the OPs thread had to do with "wanting a Ferrari" then I sincerely doubt people who currently own a Ferrari or are seriously planning to purchase one care too much about gas prices - and this seems to be the general consensus of posts after my initial response. Cheers
Gas here is way past $10 a gallon. Zero concern for my Ferrari. Huge concern for my 2 litre daily driver that costs me $150 per week.
