Yeah sure. But if it wins, everyone will still call it ugly.

It's a race car who cares. we are not kids anymore. We should not be getting upset by silly little comments like that.
Look at F1 the cars have looked like a$$ since the 80s

During decades people have cried about the lack of presence from the factory at Le Mans.
Now they have it and instead of enjoying this historical moment they are discussing about the look of a camouflaged race car..
    Frankly!

Not really. All that matters is being a winning car.

I'm sure the design is going to change as the car undergoes development, not least in the headlight area which I suspect will need a significant upgrade for night racing at Le Mans

    Design won't change.
They will just remove the camouflage.
    Not a beauty contest.

Any word on what engine this will be running? Would love it to be a V12 but suspect it will be either the F1 V6 or a development of the 296 engine.

These holes over the tyres (mandated by the rules, I know) look ridiculous on these cars, LMP or Hypercars.

In the 70s, Porsche 917 used to go 240+mph without these and none took off.

I think V12 is a non starter these days ! More likely it will be a V6 turbo based on their F1 power unit.

Bored up to 2 liters and slightly detuned, it could be a winner.

Excuse me, appreciating beauty and giving a thumbs down on ugliness can be appreciated by all ages, including kids and adults.

The purpose of this car is to win races, that's not in dispute. And yet, at the same time, we are free and right to call it an ugly duck.

If it's no big deal to you why do you even care what other say about it's looks?

The F1-2001 is one of the most beautiful F1 cars ever built. And the 2010's cars got progressively ugly. And now they look good again.

You do realize racing is a spectator sport, don't you? Do you watch races with your eyes closed?

I'd rather have a good looking winner. If you don't care how the winner looks, no big deal to me.

Let's wait until they take off the cammo.

The Porsche 963 looked meh at best before they fully revealed the car (which in my opinion looks really great).

The traditional Rosso Corsa + big ol' white roundels (or some white details if the former is not allowed) might change the naysayers' opinion :)

I think till the mid 60' he was against "advertizing" - but his "sponsorship" money from Shell, champion, englebert and goodyear etc... all added up. he would switch for not much more money. Yes, Non automotive sponsorship like Marlboro did take till the mid 80's ... I think at that point his way of keeping score was his bank account - and making sure Piero and family ( granddaughter ) had money that would not get swindled by FIAT.

Not true. Look at F1. People said they did not like the way they looked and management made rules to make them look better as part of the new 2022 package. The new Lemans prototypes all look similar due to the rules. They should have written the rules to make them look better, to late now. Even the small wing Peugeot is not that good looking on its debut this week.

The new twin turbo V6 coming from the 296GTB is more plausible.

Advertising rules were relaxed in motorsport in general, to allow "extra motoring" advertising on cars without restriction.
Colin Chapman was the first one in 1968 to obtain a deal with John Players, calling his cars Gold Leaf Lotus first, then John Players Special.
BRM followed with Yardley for a few years before switching to Marlboro in 72. Marlboro moved to McLaren in 74s.
In the 70s and 80s almost 2/3 of the grid was sponsored by tobacco companies (Gitanes, West, Villiger, BAR, Lucky Strike, etc ...)
Ferrari only accepted sponsorship from Marlboro in the 90, but not the full logo.
So you could say that Ferrari missed 20 years of tobacco money that could have benefited the Scuderia.

Exactly. This is less on Ferrari and more on the spec committee. The spec can be adjusted to push the cars into a more visually pleasing form factor. That's exactly what the FIA did with F1 over the last year and the improvements are welcomed.

To which F1 regulations are you referring to? They only such regulations I can remember of was the the introduction of the nose fairing that hid the ugly "step", that was introduced by other regulations to begin with. The 2022 regulations were all about the new aero concept (ground effect and being able to follow more closely).

In the '90s several cars took off though...
