Who was the driver?
Who is "Sterling" Moss? It was indeed Stirling Moss who traveled to Bari at the invitation of Enzo to drive a new Tipo 500, but when he took a seat in the car, he was kicked out and told that the drive had gone to Taruffi.
Sterling Moss is indeed correct. And thank you for the follow-up Miltonian! There was even a trophy named after him. Name the club and the region he was an honorary member of.
Gerald... But if you'd like, you can combine our points and our names and just call us The Ferrari Market Letter...
Just lurking here, thought I'd pose a question--no points to be awarded.. How many total F1 drivers have driven for Ferrari since the inception of its F1 program? Bonus--list them per decade? (Only drivers who turned a wheel in competition, no test drivers) Greg
Haha, that would just dominate the board. I switched the point from you to Gerald..the revised board is now.. Gerald - 5 points NNO - 3 points Wayne - 3 points Miltonian - 3 points FarmerDave - 2 points vur - 2 points Darkhorse575 - 1 point Pranucci - 1 point ferrariartist - 1 point BlackRX7Turbo - 1 point Round 24 still remains unanswered
I'm gonna take a couple of guesses but I think they're both wrong, since I can't find any references to a "region" of these clubs... British Racing Drivers' Club? La Società Maranello Sportiva? I found references to a Trofeo Enzo Ferrari associated with both organizations, but I'm not certain either one is correct.
Enzo ferrari was honorary president of Circolo Sportivo Ferraristi, Mantova region. Founded in 1956, it is the oldest Ferrari Club. Someone knew a good thing when they saw it... GT
Are you going to keep this thread going while you're in Monterey? It's become my favorite thread... If you'll be out of town, pass the reins to someone else... maybe NNO since he has all the reference material to pull questions from.) (I'm just bummed cause I'm not going to Monterey after all... )
Have any additional information on that? Not the correct answer I'm looking for as it was in the early 60's and he was simply an honorary member, he didn't hold any positions in the group.
I'm glad I have followers of this thread. It's become a great learning experience for me too. I will keep it going while I'm in Monterey. I will have my laptop with me that's always connected to the internet, if not I have my phone which is as well. On top of that I will be uploading a ton of pictures from Jim's unveiling, the Ferrari event (most likely the 599 unveiling), and the Concours d'Elegance. I'm not sure if I will be able to make it to the Concorso however :-(.
http://www.aprica.it/ita/ferrari.htm on my browser the type on the website is white on white... you have to highlite it to see it but here it is in italian... Enzo Ferrari, tanto che lo stesso accettò di esserne presidente onorario. my real rusty italian - with the help of Google translator - says that means he was honorary president... i just figured they didnt get around to the honorarium till the 4 or so years later... drat. i'm runnin out of ideas fast....
