My first Ferrari, an 06 F430, is arriving in an hour or so. Aside from trying not to soil myself with excitement...my wife and I had a discussion as to how much should I tip the driver assumiing all is well with the car?
Good question! I went with a enclosed trailer to pick mine up, but I would imagine a $100 would be nice. Also depends on if he is on time, courteous, car is handled with care, blah, blah, blah. The $100 is probably less than 10% of the delivery charge, so if all things are proper go with 10% the delivery charge. Don't forget to take picks of the delivery!!! Post them when you can and CONGRATS!!!! Robert
CONGRATS! Remember this is a delicate car so I would lean more to the generous side of like $120-$140 if it is exceptionally well taken care of.
Give him a quick blast around the neighborhood. I can't imagine a better "thanks". Although do you want to have your "first ride" with the driver who dropped it off? Or the wife, kids, parents etc? It's the perfect thing but it's also a special occasion for most.
Parents, wife, kids, buddies, are all here waiting with me. I'll post pics (and my thanks to all the Fchat members who helped me) tomorrow. I'm leaning towards a tip of $100 or $120. Dad is saying $250 Wife is saying $500. I'm saying "if I gotta give the guy a $500 tip than I need to start delivering cars on the side." 30 mins or so to go.
I think $100 dollars would be nice. Americans are much bigger tippers than the Brits anyway, and over here he would be luck to get anything! Congrats with the car btw!
A nice even number is good. $100 sounds right. Odd numbers look like you scrounged for what ever was laying around. My delivery was so fast I didn't have a change to talk to the guy. He unloaded it, I was getting it out of the way, he wrapped things up on his carrier and was gone.
OK, I feel cheap as all getout. I am normally pretty generous with the tips, but if most folks tip $100 to $500 for delivery, then I am lame lame lame. It was only a 355, but I think I gave the guy $50 and thought I was the bomb.
One Million dollars!.....................................................................................................a hundred bucks sounds spot on! Image Unavailable, Please Login
What, the guy doesn't get paid already for doing a good job? Say thank you and send him on his way, geez this country is going to crap in a hurry.
Wish I would have seen this thread when I took delivery. I'm good about tipping at restaraunts, good at bellhops and other concierge services, good with my barber, but had no idea I needed to tip the delivery driver.... whoops...
In my linmted experience (mayne 12 times), I tip $100 AFTER I make sure the books, tools, spare, etc are all there, and that the car is unmarked. You'll know what to tip by his attitude and whether he's on time. Some drivers will put plastic covers over the driver's seat and on the floor, wipe the car down, etc. Enjoy your new Ferrari! Jack PS: If the driver does a nice job I ask for his card so I can request him for the next trip.
Make sure the car is in as-promised shape first and that the milage is within 1 mile of the pick up milage. After all that checks out 10% of the delivery charge seems good...
Whatever you decide , I'm sure he will be pleased. Wait till he arrives and see if he does anything that gives you a reason to tip. Maybe he will give you a few pointers about the car.
I paid $500 God bless the hard working guy that drove cross country with my dream. $1700 shipping and $500 tip. AZ to NJ Eric
