grant, sketches look great ! especially good job on the campy wheel detail. i look forward to receiving them. thanks, dan
Thankyou very much. I liked the way the wheel one turned out myself... as i said, ALOT going on with that design of wheel. Makes a 328 5-point star look simple... hope they make it there soon, safe and sound. Beautiful Dino you have there... Grant Thomas
Last weekend was busy. Finished 6 larger illustrations for Fchat's Toronto308's Birthday as a suprise gift from his wife. Each one was 6.25 inches and will all be framed together. Was given some shots of the car and composed some "location" shots using some other backgrounds. Casa Loma (a historic castle in Toronto) and Yorkville (Toronto's Rodeo Drive). I just heard that it was given, so i can finally post the pics... H-B-day! and Thank you. What can I say. It came as a complete surprise when my wife gave my the prints this morning. I recognised them immediately as I'm familiar with your work. I love them and wish to thank you as well, Grant. I'm still undecided whether to mount them individually or all in one frame with a custom matting. Thoughts? Either way, I'll post then end result when it's done.
Fabulous work Grant! What a present! The one with Casa Loma is my favourite. Very nice composition. Keep up the great work. Loving this thread. F.
You are more than welcome. It was a pleasure. Glad you like them. I did a set of 4 Ferrari F1s for someone years ago that were framed individually and hung together. Looked really sharp, so that might be a way to go. I'm looking forward to the final outcome... Thanks as always... The 2 shots went together well. My fave was the Yorkville shot. The street suits a nice side view of a Ferrari. The myriad of signs and lit windows and Old-Toronto architecture. Went down and got a few shots for future cards/paintings as well... The 599 i shot there in the summer is something i started using a new medium - or new ground (paper) to be more accurate. Looking forward to seeing what develops with it... Nearly finished the F430 watercolour - the third in the Reflections series. meant to get it done on the weekend but things came up... so stay tuned!... lots to come. GT
I love this style, i prefer this to the full scale paintings, congrats for the lovely sketches and keep'em coming.
i'm almost finished the F430 watercolour, a few details and crisping up of some edges and such. So we will have to see how the lastest of both stack up... thanks for the comments, i dont plan on stopping anytime soon... GT
a couple of new ones... a Pininfarina Cab on Worth Ave in WPalm Beach and a 365 California. Tried a different pen on the latter one... not sure about it... line drawing aspect of it is fine, a little to fine for my taste for large areas of shading... latest one. Tried an animal this time. Nice change. Totally different than a car. included some pastel. Not sure about its effectiveness. Pencil crayon might have worked better.. GT Image Unavailable, Please Login
bump some new ones for Christmas an F430 spider and a couple of non-F cars... these are done a bit larger to accomodate the entire vehicle... around 6 inches. GT Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I am SO JEALOUS Absolutely want to say I love all your Sketches. I wish I could be so talented. I should have never gave up drawing.
Wow Grant, your ability to freehand is amongst the best I've ever come across. The last one of that Mitsubishi Space Wagonwhatchamacallit...I saw one heading eastbound one evening on the 401 on my way to Yorkdale. Was that you? Once again, lovely collection of art cards.
SWB, I commissioned Grant for the F430, 911 and the Mitsu. The 2 cars belong to a couple of friends and clients of mine, and the Mitsu is my brothers in Calgary. Its a Mitsubishi Delica Starwagon Exceed. This is his truck: http://www.mdocuk.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=6204 Not as exciting as an exotic, but still pretty cool: Right hand drive, 4WD turbo diesel van. A pretty sweet way to travel. I'm looking forward to these cards Grant made today or tomorrow in my mailbox! Chris
Thanks guys... SWB: as stated below, that wasnt me... I bet Yorkdale was fun this time of year... Hope you're happy with them... should be there any day... Thanks again! I hope they make your Holidays just a little more jolly... Here are some Christmas cards i gave out at the office. (disclaimer: no Ferrari paint finishes were harmed by sharp pointy holly or other assorted decorations in the creation of these cards.) I just remember the Delica having a very tall ride height. And it had window curtains. Grant, the 4 Fcars with the wreaths are really nice! Maybe a wreath could somehow get stuck in an F40's rear wing
Seth, a lot of the Delicas when they come over (mainly imported from Japan), will have curtains, doilies on headrests. They are often very very low mileage (brothers MIGHT have 80000km on 97 model) although they do have a lot of hours on the motors - idling is not uncommon in traffic. A few sites for these cool rides and other Japanese fun: http://www.rightdrive.ca/ http://jdmconnection.ca/ http://www.luxuryimports.ca Sorry Grant we are hijacking your thread back to the awesome artworks! Chris
Cool sites, now, that I think about it I wouldn't mind a fleet of Nissan S-Cargos for delivery vehicles!
I saw one in Calgary a couple of winters ago. Pretty odd looking vehicles but I'm sure good on gas, reliable, etc. and unique for a business. Chris
Grant, my cards arrived safe and sound yesterday. They look magnificient! Thank you again and Merry Christmas. Chris
