Just grabbing some water in the office pantry, and CNBC just had a quick segment on the flip of Steve Winn's LaFerrari- reported sale of over $3MM, but with broker fees the commentators think may have been closer to $5MM. I couldn't hear the whole segment, but they showed a picture of a car with a Naples Motorsport license (maybe they brokered the deal?) I couldn't hear the TV at that point...

The segment went on to say that the people that buy these cars (the LaFerrari) often only purchase them as art or an investment... these cars should be driven! I will never forget the 2 times I had the opportunity to drive an Enzo- (including a full throttle blast through 2 gears (3rd and 4th- you can do the math on the speeds) on the highway at the owner's suggestion before I backed off). It was such an event to experience that car- I can't imagine owning one of the Ferrari "halo" cars and not experiencing what these cars were meant to do. I know owners may want to keep the miles low, but what's the point of living if you don't enjoy things vs. what becomes numbers in your asset/net worth column. I'm probably preaching to the choir- as the speculators or people purchasing only as art to sit in the garage may not be surfing around on ferrarichat :)

I don't feel bad for inanimate objects (the car) and can't compare the happiness someone might get from collecting to the happiness a different person gets from driving. You buy your stuff and do with it as you will.

I personally fall into the camp of long roadtrip adventures, but what someone else does with their car isn't really worth spending much time worrying about.

It is very nice to see the super cars out in the street and I am thankful to the owners who share them that way.

Usury economy, everything is a financial asset and therefore perverted from it's intended use.

He has vision problems iirc. Might explain why he didn't drive it.

    A combination of factors.

    Busy owners.
Cars are too fast to be enjoyed on the road without risking jail time.
And yes, some cars are very valuable so driving 1000 miles could cost 500k in depreciation.

In the case.of Wynn it has been said he can't see too good so that would explain it. I'm sure he wouldn't care about losing 500k for his driving pleasure.

    That's stunning: 1000 miles = $500k!
