I was reviewing early photos of my '73 246 GT (#06618) from 1974 while it was still in Belgium (it was sold via Garage Francorchamps) and I noticed that the Ferrari badge was on the trunk at that time as was the Prancing Horse logo right below Dino GT.

Anyone else have period photos with Ferrari badging?

Here you go...I believe this car was also an import from Garage Francorchamps. I am 3rd owner...car has 8,100 miles. I have known the car since 1981 and believe the Ferrari badge to be on the car since arrival in the U.S. in 1973. (#3002).

It would appear that either the Belgian distributor or the buying public preferred their Dinos with Ferrari identification. No one is asserting that these cars came this way from the factory, I take it. By the way, I added small cavallini to the tails of each of my Dinos. I see nothing wrong with it. Fred

Matthias - I suspect that Ferrari copied the color from my refrigerator, Formica counter tops, and shag carpet found in my home in 1972. Seemed to be the home-interior color of the 60s and early 70s. Thanks...I find it similar to salmonella diaper color; it takes a bit of getting use to, but once you do, you love it.

This exact (N. A. R. T.) badge was also on my car ('69 L-series) when I bought it in 2001; I was told that this badge is fairly uncommon/rare. I have left it on; looks cool and understated, as opposed to a large Cavallino, Ferrari lettering, etc.

I wonder if Garage Francorchamps installed the badges on every car they sold. Interesting.

Here is a similar rear shot, I don't have any of my good Dino shots available right now. If you want a better shot let me know and I'll dig one up.

Two more: My friend's '71Tipo M is on the right, with just the script on the lid. My '72 Tipo E is on the left. It displays another popular version, sans cavallino. A lot of/all of? the cars that were sold by Maranello Concessionaires apparently had the Ferrari script and cavallino installed on the back panel. (Oh...the BFGs have given way to XWXs! ;))
'sorry; I don't have any period photos of either car.

My 02 cents is that N.A.R.T. badges are proper only (it at all) on cars that were initially sold, imported by Luigi Chinetti, or raced under his direct auspicies.

On the BFGs giving way to XWXs: It´s OK, Coop. All is forgiven now. I saw the photos of your car with XWXs on and it looks completely right. Beautiful, in fact. You (and Dino Club Germany) have convinced even a die hard purist that the five spoke wheels are an acceptable alternative to the stock rims - as long as they are shod with XWXs.

Another point, was your car sold in the UK originally, even though it is LHD? The reason for asking is the roof mounted antenna. I have seen that mainly (only?) on cars sold in the UK.

I agree completely. If I am able to get one, it will go on my shelf as with the other badges.
