I guess Parker, Robinson, TomTerry and the like, are just jealous that in a poll run by Ferrari on it's Ferrari Owner's site, the results were:

"Dino! — Our users have voted the Dino 246 GT the most beautiful classic Ferrari of all time. The first survey to be published on the new Forum in fact saw the Dino, which was produced from 1969 to 1974 in three series, take a sizeable lead over the 250 GTO and the 300 P4. The P4 headed off the 250 California for third place by a single vote."

Oooookay... Not sure what you're talking about... I have never said anything bad about these cars.

So I guess that means that you have no backup for your comment that Ferrari emblems were put on at the factory.

It's a Dino because it says Dino on the little badge on the nose, because the original advertising specifically says it is not ("almost" doesn't cut it) a Ferrari, and because Enzo Ferrari (ever heard of him?) said so. I am also willing to bet that the factory never stuck a Ferrari logo on.

To those owners who insist on their Ferrariness, I am sorry they are not as proud of their Dino as I am.

    Cheers,

    Julio

P.S. Keep looking for those Ferrari ID plates. You might find another one!

I'll bet the majority of top judges would agree."

    and

How else would someone interpret Robinson's and Parker's comments? Parker 's quotation of Robinson's comment that "The 'issue' is people attempting to defend their Dinos as Ferraris then and now," coupled with Parker's comment "That's what I thought," leads to the conclusion that Parker and Robinson BOTH believe that Dino owners who have Ferrari script on their cars are somehow neurotically attempting to DEFEND Dinos as Ferraris. Dinos are great, so what is there for anyone to have to defend?

I previously posted that my Dino doesn't have Ferrari script on the rear, that I don't want to put Ferrari script on my Dino, but that it made no difference to me whether someone else had it on their own Dino or not. If it was done well, it is OK with me. I happen to think that the Dino emblem and the Dino script are just fine by themselves as they are.

My later postings simply pointed out that Ferrari itself is now officially claiming the Dino directly as one of its own.

Now, with respect to whether Ferrari ever attached Ferrari script at the factory to a Dino, I will post soon.

This thread was generated by a "newbie" it's a thread that occurs roughly every few months........ We on here know that the Dino is of Course a Ferrari end of.
My car has had the script and the Cavallino removed during restoration because i prefer the mystique of the model, but i do not give a hoot if some people prefer them on their cars or not and i have better things to worry about than a couple of badges!

    G P

P.S. Wanna buy a couple of cheap badges anyone?

    Here we go:

No, it doesn't mean that I have no backup to my comment that perhaps a "handful" of Dinos had Ferrari script placed on cars that were picked up at the factory by owners at the owners' requests. That is simply your own assumption. Now, If you want specific backup, OK. Here's some back up.

But first, an aside or two.

First, as I have posted before, I don't need (or want) a Ferrari badge or script on my Dino. If someone else has one, that is fine with me.

Second, you (Parker) asserted in another thread (check out the wire wheels thread elsewhere in this forum) that wire wheels were original options on 206/246 Dinos and you persisted to assert that with absolutely no evidence. You engaged in personal attacks and were warned by a moderator to knock it off. After numerous and vociferous postings from you, you eventually (apparently) saw the light, and you responded to a posting by dm_n_stuff as follows: (posting 114 at http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=136071&page=6)

    "Quote:

    to which you responded:

"Im surprised that a few didn't come that way but sounds like a good source so probably true."

Now, contrast your postings with what I said here. With respect to Ferrari script, I posted that it was applied to apparently AT MOST a handful of Dinos at the factory. Several Dino OWNERS (not interlopers) on FCHAT (myself, SYNCHRO, Vrooom, 4redno [who posted about this earlier in this thread]) are aware of at least 1 one-owner Dino (an early 246 with a serial # in the 500s) that had Ferrari script put on at the factory at the owner's request when he picked it up. We have all seen the car in question, and have absolutely no reason to doubt the veracity of the owner, and we have also seen period photos of this Dino and related documentation. The particular car is probably one of the most original unrestored Dinos around.

On the other hand, my Dino, if it had Ferrari script on the back, would undoubtedly have points deducted (and many more if it had wire wheels on it), but I am sure that the Dino I am writing of here would not lose points for the Ferrari script.

The thread starter was a newbie, Zarathustra (Gary Robinson) is a relative newbie to FCHAT, but how do you explain parker839 trying to mix it up in the Dino section?

If you show your car at a Ferrari Concours you will get a deduction for a Ferrari emblem on the boot, hood, or anywhere else that it didn't leave the factory with as original equipment.

As to the one that the factory affixed one to, it would also get a deduction. Doesn't matter that the factory attached it when the customer asked for it, only matters that it was not originally on the car. If I went to the factory now and asked them to attach a Ferrari Logo to my car, they would, (for an arm and a leg) but it would still be no more correct than the one attached 35 years ago.

Want to know what judges use for reference? The original factory brochure, the photos in the manual and a couple reference books. I've seen what gets used and none of those items have any pictures of Dinos with Ferrari emblems attached.

As to the other noise in here, everyone needs to chill out. We're more civil than this 99.99% of the time.

Someone sounds offended... First of all, it was you that started with the personal attacks THEN and NOW. If anyone wants to go read through the thread, they will see that's true. You can go and ask Dave yourself that the warning was directed at you as well. You know, it really doesn't matter anyway as this red herring is obviously thrown out here because you have no real evidence that Ferrari emblems were placed on Dinos at the factory.

dinogts and parker839 take this bickering to PMs.

I don't care who started what, or who said what to whom, this is BS and it won't be tolerated in here. If you have issues with each other that I have to solve, then you'll both be looking in from the outside for a period of time determined by how it goes from this point forward. I'm wiping the slate clean, I suggest both of you do the same.

But getting banned for a conversation that started off about Ferrari badges on Dinos is not gonna look good on your permanent record.:D

I mean it. Really guys, be civil, and if you can't be civil, keep it out of here and in the PM box.

    Now, back to facts.

Here is a scan of the first Dino borchure, the one with the "Almost a Ferrari" remark, and a scan of the 1972 brochure, note the reference to "the smaller Ferrari cars."

Looks like Enzo already had a change of heart about what the car was, or was not by 1972.

A few years ago, Ferrari had a display at the factory of all of the Ferrari 2+2s. Curiously, the 308 GT4 was left out of this display even though the GT4 was actually sold as a Ferrari after some time. As much as we love them (in my case since I was a kid when my dad had one), Ferrari considered Dino to be its own marque then and to a certain extent still does i.e. their treatment of the GT4. For the factory to badge a Dino with Ferrari emblems would have seemingly undermined the brand that they were trying to establish and seems doubtful.

Fiat had a change of heart, not Enzo, for obvious commercial reasons mainly oriented at the US market. In 1972 Enzo had no authority and little interest in the road cars.

I will stick with what Enzo said.

So following some of the BS logic on this, Ferrari should be stripped of its success under the Dino guise in the 50's and 60's. !!!!!

Its heredity lies firmly with the Ferrari stable despite all the arguments to the contrary.

Ferrari V12's powered the road cars, sports cars and GP racing. Because of being whipped on circuits by lesser powered 4 cyl Cooper cars, he was forced to compete or give up on winning. So the they HAD to introduce the 4 cylinder engine (inc the Monza) which won the drivers and constructor titles in the early 50's. After this, Mercedes trounced them until they withdrew and Ferrari introduced the Ferrari Lancia D50 and then with the DINO 246 F2 of 1957. Yes DINO

How much further back can you go in the history of the DINO to realise it is an integral part of the marque despite all the protestations it isn't a true Ferrari.

Personally i dont give a flying ....... what its called, it is still the sexiest looking car on the planet, to this day.

It was aptly summed up by one person on the designer "Bavorone" ......He was a testerone charged male thinking of a beautiful women.

I regret to inform that your guess in wrong on my account.

I would probably agree the 246 coupe is the most BEAUTIFUL classic Ferrari of all time.
It is the most curvacious, petite, and feminine.
I have driven them, but never bought one because I like more than just pretty cars.
They handle well, but for me, they are embarrisingly short on power.
(Another pretty, nice handling car that has the same power problem is the Lancia Scorpion / Montecarlo.)
It is the combination of beauty, handling, and power that make a great car not just a beautiful car.

The amusing thing to me is that people get so passionate about subjects like this thread.
Dino owners should be proud of their beautiful cars.
Just remove the Ferrari logo on the boot before you bring them to a concourse.

    1. Who isn't proud of their Dino? I can't imagine an enthusiast buying one if he/she didn't like/love it.
    2. There's no Ferrari script on the back of my Dino, but it is fine with me if someone else has it on their Dino, regardless of whether concours deductions applied or not.

I normally don't weigh in on such matters, but to Zarathustra I have to say if you think the 246 is "embarrasingly short on power" you simply don't know how to drive one. I would suggest you also forego any experience with a 2.0 to 2.4 litre 911, an E30 M3 or nearly any car offered by Lotus. I am sure you will remain quite content to have your driving flattered by torque like so may others.

Geez, I go away for a day or 2 and things get fun in here.

I wonder what would have happened if I posted pictures of a FIAT Dino with Ferrari scripts and Cavallino, I have even seen one with shields.

And NO NOT mine, mine proudly displays only what it left the factory with, FIAT Dino. But there are plenty of Ferrari powered FIAT Dino's with Ferrari logos on them, we don't care that FIAT made the motor, we tell everyone its Ferrari powered which we can do because articles of the day said it was powered by a Ferrari motor.
