Hi, posting for the first time here. I've been a long-time Porsche owner, and have decided to jump into the Ferrari world in 2010. Before making the purchase, I was hoping to do some research. I've read the FAQ sticky, which was very helpful, but I would like to try and learn more about the car's history, the evolution of the different models, etc. Can anyone recommend a book that will give me some needed education on the subject? I did do a search without much luck. Thanks.

"The Ferrari Buyer's Guide" by Dean Batchelor is a pretty good review of the of the marque from the early days through today- just make sure you get the updated/latest edition if you want info on the newest models.

Unfortunately due to my car addiction, over the years I have purchased this same series of books (The xyz Buyer's Guide) for BMW, Alfa Romeo, Dodge/Plymouth muscle cars, Jaguar, Porsche, Mercedes....(not all were written by Bachelor) I love the obscure details of such things as the 530i vs 528i of the 1970's BMWs for instance, or the differences in the 250sl mercedes from the 230sl, performance of the diesel cars, 440 vs. Hemi Dodges, etc...

The original first book I bought was the Porsche Buyer's Guide (which was also by Deal Batchelor- they were not all written by him) which I bought when I was about 14 or so, working my butt off and saving every penny for my first car. I read the whole book many times and knew it by heart (especially the 924/944 and 911 sections as those were the cars I was looking at to buy used- ended up at the high end of my search range with a euro '78 911sc- cost $10K in '88)- I still have the picture of the hot 80's chick in front of the 944 that started the 944 chapter etched in my mind- she was wearing a race suit sort of thing :)

Ferrari actually published a book called "360 Modena", I was given a copy by my local dealer. You should be able to order the book from your local dealer.

Ferrari: by Rainer W. Schlegelmilch, decent tour through the models and history. If you want to learn more about Ferrari racing, there is a good book called "Ferrari, the Red Dream."

    Enjoy your search and welcome~

Thank you all. I just ordered Batchelor's book on Amazon, and picked up John Lamm's Ferrari book from Borders. Lamm's book has nice pictures, but the writing is pretty pedestrian, not surprising since Lamm was a photographer for one of the car rags.
