Well what if the guy with 5 wins is just getting killed by an unreliable car or somebody like Alonso running into him in the first corner every race?? LOL

I called it. People here need some patience. All the moaning about LH co-leading the WDC without a win should all be over. No one this season has as many podiums as he has. No one has more wins than he does.

Just thought I should bump this again. Anyone got crow for Luca and some of the posters in this thread? :) Lewis still has the most podiums among the drives, and still tied for the most wins.

Like I said before, give it time and it will work itself out. Both under the old and current points systems, Lewis would be in the lead with Alonso in second. Patience...

This is kind of an annual tradition for whichever team is in second. Nothing new.

But did you hear both Kimi and Alonso talk about how hard it is to pass? For one or two points in a season where the WDC can have over 100 points total, the points for passing just don't reflect the difficulty.

If it's hard to pass, make it worth the effort. Nine or ten points for a win were enough when there were only six races in a season. But not when you have 17.

Different points wouldn't change the standings with the same results. But it might get drivers and teams to work harder for better results.

And it could heat up the rivalries between teammates, too. ;)

THE BEST IDEA ON HERE SO FAR . . . Give an extra point for pole and an extra point for fastest lap.

I agree with Tony that a point for pole and fastest lap should be awarded- give me 10-6-4-3-2-1 and I'll be happy.....

Call me naive but shouldn't the driver and team that wins the most races be champion. If we are going to reward the also rans, is it really a championship? "We're all winners" is socialistic BS. The top producer is the top producer. Deal with it.

    Forza Ferrari.

    The WCC is about consistency.

The WDC is about WINNING. Lewis has yet to win a race??? and leads the WDC? Houston, we have a problem...

The only reason Rosberg won the championship in '82 was because Villeneuve died and Pironi broke his legs.

I think the championship should be won by the driver who wins the most races, then the points split a tie.

Having said that I think championships are totally boring, I prefer the Villeneuve (G) philosophy of trying to be the fastest on every lap, if you win the championship great but no loss if you dont as long as everyone knows you are the quickest.

Watching Villeneuve was INFINITELY more exciting than anything that has happened in F1 since 1982 (especially the Prost/fuel consumption years), except maybe for a few laps by Alesi in a Tyrrell (qualifying at Monaco springs to mind).

Assuming Ferrari finishes 1&2 (best case) for the rest of the season they will earn 18 points each race and that McLiaren finishes 3 & 4 (worst case for SF) they will earn 11 points per race, a differential of 7 points per race. McLiaren is only 11 points ahead with 5 races to go.

Conclusion: SF could win the WCC if they pick up an average of 2.21 points per race.

    Forza Ferrari.

    Way too optimistic a scenario.

Ferrari can win Monza with a 1-2.

Belgium has a good chance of rain, so that eliminates Massa, leaving Kimi for victory.

Fuji is an unknown, but fast, so another 1-2 is possible.

China is more likely to suit the McLarens.

Interlagos has another chance for rain.

=> Forza Kimi, but I'm not holding my breath.

Phil has to pick up 16 points to beat Lewis by an average 3.2 points per race which means FM 1st and LH 2nd for every one of the last 5 races is not good enough. And Phil has to beat Alonshole by 2.2 points per race. Phil has to beat Lewis by an average of more than two positions to win. If FA is in P2 each race then Phil and FA tie in points.

Kimi has to beat Lewis by at least 3.4 points per race and Alonshole by an average of 2.4 points per race to win.

Hard for Phil with 2 drivers ahead of him.

Even harder for Kimi with 3 drivers up front in the points.

By best case I meant best case for SF which would be the most optimistic case. I am hopeful but would not want to put any money on SF pulling their fat out of the fire and winning the WCC. But it's not impossible.

You're assuming that the Massa from Turkey is showing up for the next 5 races. But that won't happen, because he isn't consistent and the old Massa from the Sauber days will wreck a couple of races.

Kimi is more consistent, but there is that bad luck syndrome that will strike again. Either way the WDC will go to McLaren.
