There's a fairly decent probability that this is a reproduction kit, but nobody seems to know of any telltale signs to determine if it's original or reproduction. So it's for sale as is, you may get lucky and score one heck of a deal on an original, or pay a fair price for a reproduction.

Kit appears to be complete, and unused, the case itself has some damage, seen in the photos, and the brass shim is tweaked. I wish I had more information, but info. seems as rare as the tool kits, that is to say almost non-existent. I'm asking $6500 OBO, and I do stress the OBO, need to find this thing a few home.

Isn't this the same kit you had on offer a month or so ago? If I recall correctly, you sold it rather quickly and Tom S, although not the final buyer, offered full ask on open forum. Thanks.

Jack, you're correct, it's the same kit I sold a little while ago. The information I had at the time lead me to believe is was 100% original, the buyer raised some questions, and as I really don't have anything to support it's originality, I agreed to take it back and refund his money. I was going to simply edit the original ad, but can't for the life of me find it, hence the new one.

I still have my doubts about this kit being a reproduction, but without either another original or a reproduction to compare it to, side by side, I can't say either way.

Max- Cannot think of why anybody would go to all the trouble to make a reproduction of something that complicated.

From what I gather, the original kits may or may not have come with the car when you took delivery, but were supposed to. Along the way, most of them that were given to the owner with the car were removed from the car, and put on a shelf, cars change hands, original owner forgets to give the new owner the tools, finds them 10 years later, doesn't know what they were for, and throws them away/sells them at a garage sale/etc. That leaves a 212 or something of similar vintage without one of it's original accessories. If you're going through the expense of restoring one to "factory correct" you're theoretically looking to put all the factory paperwork, tools, spare tire etc in it. Given the seeming scarcity of these kits, building a reproduction would seem like your only easy option.

It is a fairly complex thing to recreate, but I've certainly built more complex parts for far less valuable cars.

$4500? Seriously, if you're interested, make an offer, does me no good to have it collecting dust and taking up shelf space.
