I have requested the build sheet for my 328 from Ferrari. They have asked me for my chassis number, engine number and differential number. I didn't know the latter had a separate number. Can anyone advise where I may find an ID number for my differential/transmission?

    Had the same problem -
Last time I had an oil/filter change I asked the guy to ID my tranny number - he had to remove a curved steel plate - but there it was. Now have my Heritage Certificate

There is a pop-up on the owners site describing where to find your gearbox number - this informaiton is also repeatedly here too for people with the same problem - try a search

the heritage certificate is on the factory owners site and tells your original colors etc

Thanks. I started this process 2 weeks ago. The site options have been changed. I have been advised by Ferrari North America that autos after the 70s don,t have an actual "build sheet". However for 120 euros they will provide a letter with original colors. I have also requested confirmation of my chassis, engine and gearbox numbers as being original.

They did away with "build sheets" before the 308s began.

The "Heritage Certificate" is a form letter stating the car's original exterior and interior colors and the final assembly date. If all 3 numbers don't match their records you don't get a certificate (at least that is what would happened when they started the program). Every number, letter and blank space, except the stars, is important. There are several threads that show exactly how to list your numbers in order to be successful with the process.

I just sent in my chassis, engine and gearbox numbers to get my certificate. I had it in a couple of days, no charge.

The gearbox # was stamped on the boss for the motor/trans mount, just by the trans "oil pan".
