I read the thread about Shumi in the opening ceramony.

    But -

Did you know the torch was made by Ferrari and was carried through the factory and in a 430?

"Olympic Torch Is Passed in a Ferrari F430 Spider

    Date posted: 01-17-2006

MARANELLO, Italy — Luca Badoer, test-driver for Ferrari's Formula One team, received the Olympic flame on Saturday and held it aloft in an F430 Spider. In that unforgettable way, the most powerful symbol in sports made its way toward Turin and the 2006 Olympic Games.

The torch's odyssey through Ferrari's stomping grounds was rife with meaning. The official 2006 torch was designed by Pininfarina Extra, an offshoot of the design house and coachbuilder that has deep roots in Ferrari design. The new torch is said to be a modern interpretation of the wooden torch believed to have been used in ancient Greece. It also bears some resemblance to a ski tip, appropriately enough for the Winter Games.

From Ferrari, the torch was carried toward Reggio Emilia and Parma. It will continue traveling through Italy until it ignites the Olympic Cauldron at the opening ceremonies on February 10 in Turin."
