    Hi everyone,

Is anyone going to the 2013 Cavalcade in Florence later this month??

I'm heading there with a friend (also from NZ) to drive an Enzo (the Enzo is,presently in London) in the event. Getting info from Ferrari has been frustrating but looking at last years event it should be a lot of fun. We leave this Friday so we will be there early and fighting fit after the 30 hours of flights to Florence.

Would love to meet up with anyone who is also heading there for some fun etc.

    Cheers

At the risk of sounding like a cheapskate, I have to wonder if this event is worth the cost at nearly ten thousand bucks for a three day tour of Tuscany and a "tour" (I assume at low speeds) of a race track.

Yes, Tuscany is nice. Yes, hanging around with other Ferrari owners will be fun. Yes, the hotels will be nice. I'm certain the event will be quite wonderful. But still, ten grand is quite a bit of money for most (but certainly not all) folks, even those of us who own a Ferrari.

Last year I took a five day tour of Tuscany with my wife. We stayed at a fancy agroturismo, ate and drank like crazy, drove all over the place, and generally had a great time for about a thousand Euros, not including fuel. We were alone and didn't get to tour any tracks and I will admit that we didn't eat at any restaurant fancy enough to require evening wear. Nevertheless, it was pretty nice.

The year before that, I spent a three day weekend with my Ducati touring the area around Imola along with 350 other Ducati riders. Each person was responsible for their own hotel and dinner costs, but the entry fee was only around $250 Euros. That included two all-day escorted (factory Ducati Riders and Police escorts) tours split into three groups (easy, medium, fast), free lunches, and a couple of laps (at low speed) around the track at Imola. That event was a LOT of bang for the buck.

I understand that the Cavalcade is designed to be a pretty fancy event and I certainly see why it wouldn't be dirt cheap. But nearly ten thousand dollars seems like a lot, unless Ferrari were to provide the cars. You can do the Milli Miglia Ferrari Tribute for that price.

I guess I'm sounding like some sort of trailer-trash, redneck, low-rent, scum-ball. Perhaps I really shouldn't own a Ferrari and at the same time think that money still means something. Should I seek professional help?

Today the event meet at the Villa Tigli , in Firenze. It was grand, and many of the local Ferrari crowd showing up to talk cars and good food. I counted 35 police escorts to run the cars back through to the river. Tonight, the Ponte Vecchio is the place for dinner, yes, it's dinner on the bridge, in the middle of the bridge , never seen this or even heard of this being possible - but Ferrari has the horsepower. All quite neat - and no press allow during the event. I took some photos, will post asap. Very nice appearance of Lotti's 250MM.

10k is ridiculously expensive. And when you look at the cars registered they were mostly current production cars with the oldest being a 348.
