I have the Logitech g25. The steering wheel initialization process happens with the Ferrari Challenge game.

Speaking of wheels and sensitivity/calibration, I have the Joytech Williams F1 wheel. It works great on the old Ferrari Challenge, but way too much sensitivity on the new game. I almost can not complete a lap in the Tutorial.

That's my problem...and can't find how to change view to cockpit either. Although from some reviews I've read it sounds like it sucks with too much cabin and not enough road. Sounds like I either shell out $250 for a G25 or sell Ferrari Challenge...

Since I am not a hard core gamer, right now the old version is more fun. 355 around Laguna Seca is a blast (and easy for me). GT4 works well with my old wheel, too.

Anyone know how to get cockpit view in PS2?

PS3 racing games are useless without a good steering wheel (force feedback, vibration, the works...) and a solid stand to hold it in place, and a good seat to sit back in.

I myself use the Logitech racing wheel, the WheelStation2 (folding wooden wheel stand), and an adjustable office chair. :)

Xbox360 games work ok with the Xbox wireless controller, better for "arcade-style" racers.. and the wheel is a bonus for better control.

But for the PS3, the lack of proper triggers and a loose joystick make it difficult, if not impossible to race with it.

In short: get the wheel of your choice, or sell your PS3 racing game! :)

Is the problem trying to use a PS3 designed game on a PS2? I do have a Logitech force feedback wheel, works FANTASTIC with GT4! oh well...the commercial looked sooo good too :(

Not sure... when I used to play on PS2, I tried the controller, but the PS2 controller is worse than the PS3 controller....

They had announced that the PS2 would have analog buttons for the first time with 255 levels of sensitivity or something like that... but a human being from Earth can only sense 2 to 3 levels on the lower shoulder buttons

Now, on the PS3, the shoulder buttons are trigger wanna-be pressable buttons, and no where near the the triggers found on the Xbox360, the original XBox or even the Sega Dreamcast.

So... if you're going to race on a Playstation, I would highly recommend the Logitech wheel on the PS3. I did get the Logitech USB wheel with vibration for PC, that also worked with my PS2, but never really enjoyed it that much. Do you have this wheel or a new PS2 wheel?

I'm speaking from my experience with the following:
    * Xbox360 MadCatz MC2 steering wheel
    * Xbox360 Wireless Wheel with vibration and FF
    * Sony PS2 with Logitech USB wheel (for PC, but works with PS2)
    * Sony PS3 with Logitech Driving Force GT with FF

For the 360, the newer wheel is a lot better than the old one.
For the PS3 with the new wheel, it's definitely 10x better than the old wheel I used on the PS2 and PC.

With all this talk about the Logitech G25, maybe I need to get another wheel for the PS3, for a full racing network at home. :)

I am using a PS2 version of Ferrari Challenge on my PS2 with the Joytech PS2 wheel. Still too hard to steer. Too sensitive in throttle and braking, too.

Has anyone seen the "In Car View" on PS2?, it shows it in the booklet but I can't get to it in the game just the other views.
I like the game but it could better for me with this view.

From what I have read on the internet and asked some people about it...sad to say but the in car views of the dashboards DON'T work in the PS2 version. Sorry...Thats one reason I won't buy the game. I would play it if I could rent it from blockbuster but it doesn't seem worth purchasing the game for PS2. Thats my opinion for what its worth.

ok, I switched controllers (finally) to the hand held that came with the PS2 and everything works fine, better steering control and in car view too. Contrary to some posts I read somewhere (maybe not Fchat) about a poor in car view, if you cycle through you get to a full window view which is great.

Having said that...I may just upgrade to a PS3 system. Anyone interested in the PS2 game send me a PM...

So there is an in car view on PS2. Cause I read in multiple places that there wasn't. Well I was wrong and would like to get rid of my previous statement.

I haven't driven this game very much, so maybe it is a matter of getting used to it, but the cars don't handle like anything I've ever driven in real life. The cars seem to slide all over the place. Around Fiorano I often find myself careening off course whilst my new friend Tiff provides a background soundtrack of helpful phrases such as "Power Power Power" and "Aaah, you're braking too early" (never mind that I'm already out of control long before he even starts reprimanding my timidness). These comments are typically followed by my personal favorite, "the race course is those gray bits". Is there some secret to setting up the car to handle? I'm sure I can get used to it (my 8 year old has with seat time), but honestly it's hard to enjoy it when it doesn't (in my opinion) handle anything like a real car.

There certainly is, I saw it! had to use the original controller to get it though, the buttons on my Logitech steering wheel couldn't change view. Sounds like a programming bug to me...

It takes some time to get used to the game.

    Some possibilities:
    1. Try reducing the pedal and wheel sensitivity first and then reduce the force feedback. All these settings are there in the game options menu.
    2. Change the difficulty level to beginner instead of the default dynamic setting.
    3. Take the assists (ABS / TC / SC) off - sounds contrary but it makes the car handle more naturally. In the dry, you wouldn't need the assists anyway.
    4. Use a steering wheel/pedal set up - it is a lot easier and progressive than the hand controller.
    5. Use the time trial feature to get used to driving the car. I find the Fiorano track to be like a narrow goat path - it is really a worthless track IMO.

Thanks -- these are great tips and will give them a try. I'll start with taking all the assists off since my primary complaint is that the handling doesn't feel natural.

I could only get there using the hand controller, not steering wheel. One of the buttons, I forget which now, cycled through the views.

One of the things in the game that brings tears to my eyes (well not literally) is the incredible consistency of the front runners in the Challenge. They never seem to have a day off. The top three drivers constantly end up on the podium and it is insanely hard to catch them.

Anybody else willing to share their results?
    - 5th in the European challenge
    - 4th in the North American challenge

Oddly enough I played America first, with less experience. So does that say that the American competitors are weaker than the European ones? Probably, because I think the Europeans normally clean up the series in real life (but not sure, maybe somebody has real life results?).

I just got this game.. while I like it and WANT to love it.. I personally thnk Grand Turismo 5 Prologue craps all over this game..

GT5P is just as close to driving as you can/want to ever get.. I have a G25 and big screen tv.. and when I play GT5 THEN get in my cars on the track.. the practice in GT5 pays off.. not so much in ferrari game..

GT5, when the full version comes out will be the end all be all.. period.

until then we have this game.. which is good.. but not good enough.

I raced the US challenge first and got 7th overall. In the first few races, I qualified at the tail end and finishing barely in the top 10 in the race. In the latter races, I started winning.

I then raced the Italian Challenge and got 1st overall. I am currently leading the European Challenge with a few laps to go.

    What works for me is:
    - Must qualify 8th or better to have a chance of winning the race. It is too difficult to win from 14th. While achieving this on known tracks is relatively easy, doing it on a new track is bloody difficult. Particularly for me as I take a couple laps to learn the track. Keep the green/orange/red driving line guide on to help you. Also to maximize your time during qualifying, set up the car first before getting into qualifying - will save you about 30 seconds of driving time

    - Pick a compliant car set up. I used soft springs, dampers, anti roll bars and relatively tall ride height ~96mm front and 99mm rear). This allowed the car to ride the bumps and be more forgiving. I found that with stiff anti roll bars the car is more responsive but gets really nervous on the bumps. With the soft setup, I can put the power down much quicker at the corner exit making it much quicker overall. For wet races, I race the ride height by about 5mm.

    - Be very aggressive on the track during the race - Use the curbs, be unafraid to trade paint or bump the other cars to get them loose - the Challenge drivers are a homicidal bunch anyway. One common characteristic they have is to aggressively protect the inner line into the corner including braking when it is not really required. What you can do is feint to the inside of the corner and when they make a move, overtake them from the outside. This should be relatively easy because they tend to brake too much anyway. If you try to race like a gentleman, you will finish last. :)

    - On the dry circuits, switch off all the assists. In the wet, the SC and TC are the greatest help.

    - One secret is that you can reset the game at any time, if you screwed for some reason in any session and want to reset - press the PS button and quit game. When you restart the game will resume at the beginning of the current session. Kinda like a stupid way to restart the session. I admit I used this a couple times :)

    - Circuit wise, I found the Italian and European challenge series the easiest because of the familiarity I have with the tracks. US had too many new circuits and I found the oval/road circuit combo tough to learn.

I agree that GT5 will be the best, but first it has to become available (any updates anybody?) and second I'm not sure we will ever see this many Ferraris in any game. From that perspective Trofeo Pirelli wins.

BTW: On that topic I have to admit that I overestimated the impact this game would make. I thought this would be the new "Guitar Hero" for the PS3, but I guess my Ferrari bias got the better of me. :)

I thought that I was the only whimp who still uses the green/red ideal line...Thanks for admitting that.

Also thanks for your setup comments. One question: How do you set up for the rain race when you don't know that's coming? I would change my setup too, but only know that it rains when the race starts. Or does it always rain in the same race?

Gotta check out the reset button. Didn't know that.

The US oval/road circuits are my best performances. I have lapped cars on those. What I can't get into my head are the endless races. There is one in the US series that feels like the Nordschleife. It has like 1,000 corners (I'm exaggerating).
