Two weeks ago when I was doing the PDI on my F430 at our local Ferrari dealer I was surprised to find out that they could reset the mileage clock through the SD3. Mine had about 80 kms on the clock when I took her to the PDI. She had zero kms on the clock after the PDI. When I asked the service engineer how he did it and why, he replied that they were entitled to reset the clock at the PDI. Fine with me ;).

Does this mean with enough "influence" mileage may not be what it seems? Best

what does PDI stand for? I'm assuming it is a type of inspection.

I was always under the impression that setting back mileage was illegal. Could we have more insight please as to why they reset it?

It is illegal in the USA, both Federally and many (most?/all?) states have
laws against this. In the states, that car would legally be TMU. True
    Mileage Unknown.

PS: Anything that is electronic and says "X" can be reset to say "Y".

FWIW back when they had analog odo's new cars came with 999,950 miles usually.....the dealer and manufacturer tested them, shipped them around to dealers and then they were PDI'd and perhaps road tested again. Then they were delivered to you with 000,050 miles on the odo as a new car.

As far as an F430 mileage determination beats me.......but since we got sorta off topic....I threw in my .02 lira.

Pre-Delivery Inspection. It just means the inspection given to the car before it's delivered to the owner.

Only what he told me, that they were entitled to reset the clock at PDI only. I did not discuss it any further.

So a SD3 in the wrong hands could be very bad.
