Since I eventually will have a new Ferrari, hopefully soon, I wondered what is the best club to belong to. I'm west coast. My Dad was with Ferrari Club of America but he said more recently that FOC is better for this area of the country(I might have this in reverse). I could join both as well but which club seems to be best in the area of the country I'm in.

Join both and decide for yourself. If you can afford a Ferrari you can afford $200+ for both memberships. Or, just go to their websites and and see where ther events are being held.

Each club has their strengths, and each club has their weaknesses. I joined both clubs, tried to go to events from each club to determine how I felt about their respective organizations.

Also, are you primarily into track events, or are you more interested in social events? For me, it was social events. Both clubs in my area were bad at that, although one of the two was more receptive to increasing social events. So I joined that club, and volunteered to help plan more social events.

Then there are the local independent clubs that many times have monthly social events. You should check that out also.

Depends on where you live. i joined both and FOC is a waste of $$ in my area as they never do anything in New England it seems. Ok, so i got a pretty book and a monthly slim magazine that appears to tout all things California and Vegas, though never anything in New England. Not rejoining until they figure out how to do something closer to home base. Heck, even the local FCA has society socials (lame IMO), though the FCA Empire Region is where the fun track action is at :)

Guess it also depends if you want to do society socials or use the car's capabilities.

I never understood this sort of logic. I would think it's the complete opposite. Most of us can afford Ferraris because we know when NOT to piss away $200+.

FOC is excellent in San Diego/SoCal. Great for informal group drives, and even a concours this summer where we had more than 90 Ferraris at the event.

I'm not as interested in tracking my 328 as Steven is, so for me the social aspects and getting connected with other owners is fine.

It all depends on where you are. Down here in Texas, the FOC is practically non-existant. In fact, the FOC Texas region listing on the national website has FCA members as contacts (!)

Some places have active clubs that aren't associated with either national unit

My alternative to pissng away $200+ was to go to the FCA/FOC web sites and decide for your self - If you can afford a Ferari you should be able to make commom sense decisions on your own - this was a lame question and I resopnded in kind.

I see the logic in jonesdds' original post. It was intended to (1) figure out whether this group, which has an active/intense interest in Ferrari's, thinks either FCA or FOC membership has been particulary valuable, and (2) generate some good discussion about the clubs.

I asked a similar question about FOC before I joined -but that was a while ago and the thread is old.

My only suggestion is that the OP fill out his d--- profile so all this regional stuff could be cleared up.

I have never met anyone in the FOA here in Alabama. It always seemed to be primarly a west coast club.

    FCA is coast to coast.

Sorry about the profile not be updated, at one point it did have my location and name info but for some reason it disappeared. I did say West Coast in the original post, however.

As far as the post saying this is a ridiculous question I don't understand the attitude. If you don't like the question don't respond, simple as that.

My father had felt at the time of his owning a 308 and 328 in the mid eighties in Sacramento, CA that the FCA was the best club but the FOC seemed to take over as time went on in California. Since that was awhile ago, I thought I'd inquire. I'm more interested initially in the social aspects of the club along with technical help and events where I can see other club members cars and meet and talk with them and their experiences. I'm new with this(just took delivery today actually on a 1989 328 GTS) and I can't possibly spend the time maximizing two clubs benefits. It's not really the money, but it's pointless to join both initially for me.

Another point of difference that was brought up to me recently, at least as I understood it, the Ferrari Owners Club is not limited to the borders of the Americas as the title Ferrari Club of America would suggest.

You are in NYC. FCA has various social club activities and quite a few excellent track days at Pocono, Lime Rock Park, and Watkins Glen. Love the Empire Region FCA, leagues better than New England for **my interests** (just not into the status/show thing and i got plenty of friends to hang out with already).
