can we have our own supercar section NOW please?! ....."Exclusive to owners of Ferrari Special Series models (inc. 288 GTO, F40, F50, Enzo, Challenge Stradale, 430 Scuderia)" http://www.hrowen.co.uk/uploads/Emozioni-in-Pista.pdf
ha ha ! Tony this is irrefutable proof ! Love the difference in classiche vs non-classiche price packages, too funny !
..............I like it. CS and Scuderia are now Ferrari supercars. After this, I think they deserve their own separate section here on F-Chat .
The truth comes out about why the CS is not a true "super" Ferrari. It's all about price/snob appeal, not engineering, performance or character.
^ of course why should it be any different? any Ferrari pushes those boundaries already, a "super" Ferrari needs the extra snob appeal imho
That's true to some extent. However, among currently available models the most "snobby" in terms of market price is the 599, yet it is not "super". Since the "super" F40 is not any more expensive than a non-super Ferrari, price should not be a determining factor.
Since the super F40 is roughly the same price as the non-super 599, how can it be "super" if price is the only criteria? In fact the F40 is much less expensive than many historical Ferraris that are not "super". However, the F40 IS a super Ferrari so price is clearly NOT the only determining factor. Anyway the invitation from Ferrari that includes the CS among the F40 and Ezno is proof enough that the CS is in the same league. But since there is resistance from the super car group against admitting the CS and Scuderia, I think the sensible thing to do is to not go where we are not welcome. CS and Scuderia owners should have their own section.
F40 is actually cheaper in Sweden then a fully loaded scud. Cheaper then a 599 as well. F50 is not much more here then a 599 either, $100k or so. Guess the CS is as rare as or rarer then the Scud and almost as rare as the F40. Enzo is in it´s own league. Thing is that F40, F50 and Enzo is not based on any other Ferrari and that´s what makes them supercars imo. The price is not the biggest factor. Compare it to Porsche, 997S=430 , 997GT3RS=Scud, 996=360, 996GT3RS=CS and Carrera GT = F40, F50 and Enzo
The F40 is loosely based on the 308 according to Ferrari sources but I admit the connection is tenuous. However the 288 GTO is clearly a modified 308 since even the interior is the same. According to this logic, there should be two groups: Special series Ferrari group: 288 GTO, CS, Scuderia Super Ferrari group: F40, F50, Enzo Of course GTO owners won't like this, so the best solution is still a separate section for CS and Scud.
I hardly think GTO owners care about all this! The GTO is what it is, expert opinions not withstanding: a rare icon of unbelievably beautiful proportions, a stunning Ferrari that takes your breath away. Whatever Series one wishes to ascribe for the cars, the GTO will always be the first in that Series, the original from which the others descend... Joe www.joesackey.com
IMHO the distinction seems to be the degree that performance trumps comfort. In fact all of them are competition oriented or derived.
Personally I dont think its price that determines what Ferrari is considered a super Ferrari, I think a super Ferrari is 1 The leading edge car for Ferrari at the time of build 2 The flagship car for Ferrari at time of build I dont think the CS or Scud meet both of those
So that means at any given time Ferrari has a Super Ferrari in production and right now it would be the 599 ?
