German Grand Prix, July 28, 2002 ----------------------------------- One week after he clinched his fifth Formula One drivers title, Michael Schumacher won the German Grand Prix today, the only race -- and for him the most important -- to elude him since he joined Ferrari in 1996. He has won 9 of 12 races to equal his and Nigel Mansell's record for victories in a season. ''You can imagine how much I was dreaming for this result,'' Schumacher said. ''We have been so successful in the past three years, but this particular race in Germany, in Hockenheim, wasn't supposed to be mine. And seeing the crowd, after we won the championship last weekend, it's really a dream come true.'' It was Schumacher's 62nd victory, but only his second at Hockenheim, where he won in 1995 while driving for Benetton. It was his third victory in a row and gave him 106 points, 66 ahead of Juan Pablo Montoya, who finished second today for BMW-Williams. Ralf Schumacher, Michael's younger brother, was third, in the other Williams. Rubens Barrichello, Schumacher's teammate, was fourth. Schumacher completed the 190-mile race in 1 hour 27 minutes 52.078 seconds, 10.5 seconds ahead of Montoya. The victory gave Ferrari 141 points in the constructors series.
