Saddest part is that the chain-reaction was completely predictable and avoidable.

Traveling in a tight "convoy" make look cool, but is a stupid way to drive, for this precise reason.

I'm sorry for their troubles and glad no one was seriously injured.

MSN has the headline of "Luxury Cars Wrecked in 'Narcissist' Pileup".

    Class envy much?

If it had been a pileup of 11 Chevy Volts the media would have been pining the loss of the savior of both GM and Mother Earth ;)

I realize it's popular to go after msn, and agree it was stupid for both MSN and Bloomberg to use that headline, however both were quoting the police spokesmen

    http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-12-05/eight-ferraris-crash-at-gathering-of-narcissists-.html

“The accident occurred when the driver of a red Ferrari was switching from the right lane to the left and skidded,” said Mitsuyoshi Isejima, executive officer for Yamaguchi Prefecture’s Expressway Traffic Police unit. “It was a gathering of narcissists.” The drivers were aged between 37 and 60 years old, he said.

it's a sad loss of fun cars, and an opportunity for us to all remember to drive more defensively when on group outings.. not an excuse to turn discussion to something out of P&R section

Today we mourn the loss of 11 of automotives greatest feats of both engineering and design. These 8 ferraris, 1 lamborgini, and 2 mercs, aren't just cars to us. They're childhood dreams, the things that kept us up at night, the reason most us even go to work in the morning for. These great beauties had most of us on our knees at first glance. They brought smiles to or faces and love into our hearts. How they could make an entrance, and everyone would stop and stare. The joy they could bring behind the wheel, even the loneliest of millionaires feel married to there best friend. Everyone mourns in different ways but today brothers, whether you're trying to stay strong or cry all day long. I would like everyone to take a moment to remember how much joy these 11 brought to not only you, but also the millions around the world they've touched so deeply.

I would to have our choir sing a song in remembrance of our fallen

Painful to see! Nobody lost their lives, that is the most important thing.... All the cars involved look totalled :(

I know they mentioned the first car lost control but I know that when I have been out with multiple exotics the driving is usually "spirited" to say the least....I hope they were not racing and screwing around in traffic, recipe for disaster. I always keep my head when running around in group drives, often times drivers want to show off and be at the front which can cause accidents like this. Like I said I dont want to speculate but it would not surprise me if they were runnin like crazy through traffic at high speeds....

Hi Buffy - Glad you had to cancel! ;)... Question for you. Does the "gathering of narcissists" statement by the police officer being reported here in the US news have a meaning in Japan that is different than the way we use the word "narcissist" to mean extreme vanity/egotist, etc. here in the US?

    From Bloomberg:
"...executive officer for Yamaguchi Prefecture’s Expressway Traffic Police unit. “It was a gathering of narcissists.”

It looks like the black 360GT in the middle is the lone car to escape unscathed....from the pictures anyway.

Sad to see all those beautiful car in that state. Hope everyone walked away without serious injury. Obviously a nice club drive gone horribly bad.
Maybe the OP was the guy driving the wrong way.
