I took these two photos years ago on Bayshore Drive in Newport Beach, CA. Then I submitted them to Road and Track magazine, they published one on the last page of the magazine (PS) but they never gave me credit.
Amazingly, you can almost tell what kind of car was involved just by the outline on the wall.
    Any guesses?

This is the "PS" page from Road & Track, January 1985. The photo credit is given to Richard M. Baron, who is listed in the R/T masthead of this issue as "Associate Art Director". There are differences between your pictures and his picture (his??). On his picture, someone has written "Live Fast" on the wall, the skid marks aren't exactly the same, etc. I don't have an explanation, but I don't think the pictures were taken at the same time.

Thanks Jeff. Figures that after I sent the photos someone would go down there to see for themselves. The R+T offices were in NB at that time.

My photos were taken prior to 1984, R+T must have sat on their shot for a while. I don't know what model the car was but I heard Ferrari something at the time. Someone could contact R+T and see if anyone there looked into the accident.
There seems to have been another crash at the site between my photos and R+T's, there is a large skid mark on the curb and a big black mark between the front and rear tire marks in the magazine pic that are not on mine.

So far, we have these guesses:
    250 GTO
    Daytona
    Boxer
    275 something
    F360 Modena

The 360 is the only one we can rule out.

Personally, I think it's faked. In order to launch a car over the curb and sidewalk, and leave an impression on the wall, how could there be no damage to the wall? I think it's "art".

I actually examined it up close, there was rubber where the tires spun up against the wall. I know its amazing but I believe it was a real crash. That's a bad corner in NB, accidents happen there all the time.

I'm thinking the same thing, because I don't see any tire marks on the curb---maybe I'm blind. It would make a very effective ad!
