When I just bought my first Ferrari,a Challenge Stradale, in 2013 i discovered leaking brake fluid after weeks of standing still in my garage! The probleme was a leak in the rear brake calipar and i decided to buy a complete new set of 20 brake pistons from stainless steel instead of the original Aluminum.

The cause of the leak was the top layer coming loose of the aluminum pistons. I took the calipar off and pressed the pistons out with air-pressure, watch your eyes for brake fluid!! Made everything clean and put the new pistons in with special grease.
The year after i did the other rear brake out precaution ..

To remove the calipars i made a stick between my stearingwheel and brake pedal to help and keep the brake pedal down after opening 1 bleeding nipple somewhere on a calipar. As long as the brake pedal stays down (in my case some weeks) the brake fluid will not leak out of the braking systeem with one (or more) calipar(s) removed!

After mounting the calipar back remove the stick from the brake pedal and let the bleeding nipples open till the brake fluid comes out. Press the brake before or during to bleeding to press the new calipers against the brakediscs. Make sure there is a good level in the brakefluid system left and add new when required!

I hope to help others with this description!!

Ive been told by my service dealer that my brakes on my CS are sticking and recommends doing an overhaul of the brake calipers. Could you list where you got the parts to do that with?

Also going with stainless steel over aluminum did this affect the carbon ceramic dics?

I have found the stainless steel calipers on Hillengineering.co.uk and it doesn't effect the braking on ceramic discs! I don't feel any difference and no leak since the change!

It's a nice job and most garages will be able to to the manage it!

Good post. I plan to do the same to my F430 CCMs next winter.

Would you mind sending me through the part numbers. I wouldnt mind doing this myself also.

I just that the material one being softer ie aluminum compared to stainless steel so it may affect the pads or braking force?

The end of the new pistons have the same shape and pressure on the brake - pads so i don't think you will feel any difference between old and new!

Caliper Pistons - Hill Engineering Ferrari Parts

    These are the numbers :

    Front : BCP - 360CS - F (6 pistons each)
    Rear : BCP - 360CS - R (4 pistons each)

I also ordered and placed the new seals, the old ones still looked good but it was not much more money to order the complete set ..

Great thanks for the pics and part numbers mate.

I am unsure whether the brakes need the pistons replaced or just the seals.. The dealer rekons its sticking so when the car was up on the hoist it the wheel wasnt moving freely.

In my situation the only probleme was the leaking brake fluid, all wheels were turning easily!

What you (or your dealer) can do is to remove, clean and look at the brakepads and the calipers first before looking inside! And advisable to refresh the brake fluid every 2 or 3 years!

The sticking probleme stays u need to look further and possibly remove old caliper grease inside ..

If you can miss the money just buy the complete new brake pistons and seals set, it's nice to look at besides the Ferrari models and souvenirs when not needed on the car! :)

    Good luck! Keep me posted!
