I have a bet with my wife that someone can tell me the VIN of the Medium blue (sorry, I don't know the Ferrari color code) Daytona that appeared (still) in the December 15, 1971 episode of one my favorite shows, "Columbo". The episode was entitled "Lady in Waiting" and had Leslie Nielsen in a guest appearance. Euro car or early car judging by it's 3-eared spinners. thanx steve

The car looks like a "French/Bugatti" blue. s

    I love watching Columbo.

There's also another Daytona in an episode starring Roddy McDowall.

(And it's always odd hearing Roddy McDowall's voice and seeing no apes!)

Sorry but I can't give you the number for that particular Daytona but there were a couple of other Daytona coupes painted the Azzuro Dino color in 1971 that were delivered to Canada. One was 14481 and the other car was a couple of hundred cars earlier. The TV car would be hard to find today as the color has likely been changed since 1971. Both the cars I mentioned were changed to red from the blue. Also 14481 had the original interior color changed from black to tan. Even the original grey carpet in that car was changed to tan.
The TV car was probably built in 1971 with a 14 xxx serial number and the nose painted silver on the car; something that doesn't appear in the side views. There are couple of other images I have seen from that episode but they don't show much more of the blue Daytona.

As luck would have it, the episode with Roddy McDowell and the silver Daytona wearing Cromodoras, was the next one on the list to watch from Amazon Prime! Not too busy this afternoon so I got to see it. I can't believe we actually wore those crazy styles...bellbottoms, wide lapels, etc. steve

Isn't this one of few episodes where he doesn't catch the bad guy?

You would never do this today, but Roddy was smoking a big cigar in the Daytona in that episode as it was raining when pulling into the garage.

Don the Cannonball car was 14271 and it started life in a color described as 'sand beige' metallic. It was repainted Sunoco Blue with yellow pinstripes by Penske pinstriper Larry Schoppett.

Yes, and he wouldn't mention it until after he left the room (popping his head back in and saying something like "you know, I couldn't help noticing that the car's serial number was ...")

Combining both thoughts, he'd probably come back in the room and say something like "you know my wife Carbon, now she just adores Ferrari serial numbers, but the funny thing is... <insert bombshell SN-related fact here>"
