    Dear Fchat brain trust:

I’m considering selling my beloved 599 HGTE myself. If I were a potential buyer, a comprehensive vehicle inspection report by a Ferrari dealer would be helpful. How do dealers charge for their inspection service? Do they do it for a flat fee, hourly, or some other method? What would be the typical price range? Should I be on the lookout for anything in particular regarding the inspection service?

Well........ you see if they aren't involved with the sale of the car, they don't do PPI. That's what FoAtlanta told me when I asked them to inspect a 430 I we trying to buy. So ask your local dealer before getting your hopes up.... #1 reason FoA will never get any love from me... I mean they are a Ferrari dealer and wouldn't inspect a Ferrari I was wanting to buy. I lost that car and they lost my business. Find independent service shops first tjen look for cars. Enjoy they are worth every penny.

Ferrari Barcelona did a PPI on the F512M I bought from a private buyer in the city a few years back. It was a thorough check that includes compresssion and putting it on a jig to check chassis. Took all day, nine to five, I had lunch with vendor. Cost around 1000 euros (roughly 1200 dollars).
They knew and had serviced the car, which is always a risk of conflict of interest. I did have the same inspection done in the UK when I brought the car home, and everything was fine.
As a buyer i would be reassured by a PPI from the vendor but I would still want another one done independently.
Of course if the PPI flags any major issues, you’ll have to deal with that situation..

In this case I would be the seller of the car -- which has not been serviced by the local Ferrari dealer while I've owned it, but rather by an independent shop. So I, as the seller, want to get the inspection. The reason I bring this up is that I have seen cars for sale on consignment to Ferrari dealers where the dealers tout that it has undergone their 200(?) point comprehensive inspection. Anybody know whether an Fcar dealer will do such an inspection for a seller not consigning his car?

There's no way they SHOULDN'T be doing that type of inspection as long as you're prepared to pay.

I called FoWashington, and it was (to memory) $600 for a basic PPI, and $850 including full compression/leakdown by cylinder, this was on a 550 Maranello

    Just my input.

Honestly, if I was you I'd list the car along with the most important details/service records but wouldn't have an inspection done until a potential buyer requests it.

I know you're trying to be helpful but just mention you're welcome to any PPI. If I was a potential buyer, that would give me enough peace of mind that you're not trying to hide anything. Don't waste your money on an inspection yet. Let the buyer pay for it if they deem it necessary.

Also, I'd rather choose the PPI location myself since I'd be slightly worried about conflict of interest if the seller had the car inspected somewhere.

Even with my post-retirement shrunken ego, my heart leans toward the F12, but hybrid seems the wave of the future.
