I appreciate the quick and thoughtful response from all of you, and look forward to visiting Shanghai (spelled correct this time), and the Ferrari/Maserati dealers there.
    Warmest Regards,
    Adam

The other showroom belongs to Superior Motors, and is at 355 Yanan Road West. This is an agent not a dealer although he has been selling cars for a few years before the dealer arrived last month. He sells Lambo, porshe fFerrari etc.

Anyone know the current price for a second hand 360 in Shanghai? It should be cheaper than HK brand new.

As far as I know there are no second hand Ferrari cars for sale in China also the import duty is very high in China as well also the cars here are LHD and in Hongkong are RHD.

In 10 years of living in Shanghai I have only seen one other local car in Shanghai . The dealer tells me he has sold six 360's in China. So we are not flooded out with cars.

still higher than Hong Kong...which is 35% for new car
**because there are sales tax in China

you must wait until 2006 for it to drop almost the same level as USA...

Hong Kong only import tax, no sales tax..
(I think China's sales tax is about 17%...)

Yes, sales tax on cars is 17%. Plus, if you live in Shanghai, you have to bid at auction to get a license plate.

Don't come here looking for a bargain on anything that wasn't made here.

In the Shanghai Daily today (Mon. 26 July) there is an article by Samuel Zhang about license plate prices.

"The average winning price for a plate at auction this month was up 12.1% from last month to 23,544 yuan . . . "

"No other city in China auctions off license plates."

"At Saturday's auction, 14,464 people bid for a quota of 6,600 plates, the second largest number of plates released since the auctions began four years ago. The lowest winning price was 21,800 yuan, 4,000 yuan higher than last month."

To convert yuan to USD I use 8.3, so ... $2,626 - $2,836 for a license plate. And people in the states complain about paying $20 a year for a plate?
