Does Ferrari offer a service whereby they provide a copy of a car's build sheet? I have read the posts about the 'Ferrari Classiche Certification' process where Ferrari inspects the car and (if it passes) certifies it as authentic. I believe the cost is US$3,000. There are application forms on the Ferrari website. However, all I would like is a copy of the build sheet for my VIN #. That would indicate the color of the car when it left the factory, options, etc. Porsche provided such a service for my 1984 911 at a charge of $35 (I think the price may be a bit higher now). Any information or Ferrari contact details would be helpful. Thanks, Doug 1988 328 GTS
Original colors are usually NOT listed on the factory build sheets. That is a popular misconception. They are occasionally listed on other internal factory documents such as the Foglio Allestimenti, the Foglio Commerciale, the Rimesso (delivery note) or the Invoice (factory to original dealer). Build sheets can sometimes be purchased from the factory, BUT ONLY AFTER your car is already fully certifiied (red book) and they charge you an additional amount of approx. US$ 1'500. However, I have never seen a build sheet for a 328 GTS and highly doubt that such a factory document exists for this kind of model (too new). Marcel Massini
Good luck with that Doug, I believe by the time your car was made they were no longer keeping records on actual build sheets.
I had contacted Ferrari of North America two years ago requesting the same information for my 1988 328 GTS. However, as Marcel has stated, the information was not available. The Representative was able to provide the build, ship and into service dates along with the external and interior paint codes. In addition, both the transmission and engine number was provided which later was verified by my mechanic. Obviously, the information was available internally. Problem is that depending on the Representative you speak with, will determine your success in obtaining the requested information. Hope this helps.
Also, the Ferrari info on the owners site is not always correct. It states that my car was originally Argento (silver), but it has always been red. With these old hand built cars things changed all the time (during production)
F.W.I.W... For my April '89 328 GTB, sold new in France, the french "historic" importer, Charles Pozzi, which is still in the business, has sent the previous owner a computerised page extracted from their archives which is the initial order for the car and defines it as it has been ordered by the first owner, and then as it was delivered by them: external color, leather color, carpets color, list of options, numbers and figures tatooed on the glass, etc... I have nothing more or less "official" for my late Feb '89 328 GTS, which was sold new in Germany; the period importer, AutoBecker, have long gone out of business and Ferrari West Europe doesn't answer this kind of request. By activating relations, I have confirmation that it is indeed still in its factory colors as ordered. The factory only gives you the exact date of production of the car, that's all. Not even the colors. Rgds
The factory will give you the original colors ONLY IF you first have your car properly certified by them (red book) and pay a couple thousand Euros. Marcel Massini
