The driver seemed to be in good spirits afterward. I think I would have thrown up.

Ferrari never has made a decent drag race car, which is a real shame. A lot more people would be able to enjoy racing their Ferrari if it would put a good clutch and drive-train in their cars. Bracket drag racing is much more available and affordable to the average Ferrari owner than road racing. Here in the Atlanta area, I can bracket drag-race my car for $25.00 all day.

It bothered me that people were cheering louder when 360 got crushed. Is it part of exciting moment for them? I expected to hear rather the grief than cheer...
I never been to these race, so was wondering is it because of Ferrari or just crush alone for any cars.

The dragracers live to beat the Ferraries and other fast and expensive serial cars. And every now and then somebody tries to prove something to them and then this happens. He should be banned from owning any more Ferraries for this embaressement.

They were cheering because their perception was that a rich moron made an ass of himself.

Too bad indeed, as actual bracket drag racing (not to be confused with these moronic tire burning displays) can be a great way to safely experience the thrill of a high powered car. Too many people think that they are an expert at high speed driving because they've held the throttle down on a wide-open highway and seen some big numbers on their speedometer. A monkey can do this.

I've had the pleasure to have drag raced my '69 Stingray (no boos, please) at Lebanon Valley Dragway and New England Dragway for several years, and then "moved up" to club track-day racing at Lime Rock Park and the south road course at Pocono International Speedway. I have managed to achieve my personal perfomance goals (13.7 @ 101 mph at the drags and 1:05 at Lime Rock) with a 200,000 mile street-legal car. I came to REALLY understand what is weakly implied in TV advertising disclaimers - "professional driver on a closed course" and how much safer a race course is when compared to an illegal street exhibition of speed.

Yes - if you show up at a dragstrip with a Ferrari, some of the "good ol' boys" will be joking and wishing you the worst of luck. Forget them... I've also bracket raced my Mercedes C230 Kompressor (15.7 @ 90 mph) and gotten all the wise-@ss remarks you'd expect. But anyone with a trace of brains will understand that a Ferrari (or MB or Porsche or Lambo) isn't intended to be a drag racer. But any TRUE car enthusiast will be impressed that you're trying a legitimate motorsport, envious of your car, and likely to want to talk and bond with you about the whole experience.

PS - use your clutch lightly and have some fun - there are never any police officers to spoil your fun at a race track.

I totally agree that Ferraris aren't intended for drag racing. BUT.....

A few years ago when I had a ZR-1 with some bolt-ons I was at Route 66 dragway, for a Vette/Viper event. Stock Vipers smoked the stock Vettes...but when it came to heavily modified cars the Vettes seem to have the upper hand. My ZR-1 ran a best of 12.36 at 117mph on street tires....which I was very happy with.

There were a few odd-duck cars running too. Well as I was chewing the fat with another ZR-1 owner...when suddenly I see all the heads turning towards the starting line. I spin around to see what all the fuss is about. BELIEVE IT OR NOT IT'S AN F-40 ABOUT TO DO A BURN OUT!! The guy does a long...high reving...smokey one! The sound was so different than we had heard all day long...that the pits cleared out and EVERYBODY came running up to see what was making all the cool-but-different noise. The guy launches easily with just a tad of wheel spin and runs an 11.89 at 122mph !! The quickest stock Viper I saw ran a 12.18....so needless to say everyone was impressed by that little 2.9 litre V-8 !! On his second run he want a little QUICKER YET !! But unfortunately I missed it...darn. I looked at the car in the pits and it was very nice...the only mod I saw was a Tubi exhuast....other than that...stock wheels and tires. Since then I've been infatuated with F-40s.

It's nice to see a car "out of it's element" occasionally. And this guy did Ferraris proud.......
