Does anyone have experience with the Ferrari Driving Experience at the Circuit Mont Tremblant? Is it worth it? Do you get to open up the 430 on the strait, etc.?

If it is anything like the Porsche Driving Experience you will get nowhere near top end at the track. The purpose of the experience is really to learn about car dynamics and how to better drive a specific car. I assume you will get some seat time in a model other than the 430, but perhaps that is only at the PDE, where you get your own 911 for the track, but autocross in a Boxster S, in fact, even in a Cayenne.

At PDE you play follow the leader and while the groupings get rearranged based on ability and experience, even for the top group, we got nowhere top end, mainly because the straight wasn't long enough and braking too late at the end of the straight can be very interesting.

Let us know your experience and what you actually do and what you learned.

Your money would be better spent at Bondurant or Barber....better school, and a hell of alot cheaper....but at least some Fcar guys are interested in learning some driver's skills.

not many places you'll see the top end of a ferrari/porsche/lambo, especially not as a consumer... think he just wants to know if you can open the throttle and give it some stick or if it's a bit tame.

My experience has been that the Ferrari people are much, ah, how should I say this? Ah, much less anal than the Porsche-BMW types. The prevailing attitude seems to be that if you can afford to lift your leg high enough to run with the big dogs, they let you pretend that you are a middle sized dog. :)

We'll see. The reason that I jumped on it was to get two days of track time in a F430. Yes, the same car that dealers can't get. Even better, it will be prepped by Ferrari. Even mo better is that we'll have Ferrari instructors.

But, wait, there's more. I have never been on the Mt. Trem. track, but I have seen it. Absolutely beautiful. People who have run both tell me that they like Mt. Trem better than Barber.

Finally, the Historic and Challenge races will be there the following weekend. It will be good to see old friends and make new ones. Who knows? I might ever be able to get a ride in a car!

Spent this past Monday and Tuesday at the Ferrari Driving Experience at Mont Tremblant in Quebec and I have to say for me it was well worth the cost. The 430 is so much better to drive than the 360. I was most struck by how good the carbon brakes are in contrast to regular steel: great bite and easy modulation. I could feel the added power of the 430, and the F1 transmission is light years ahead of that in my 360.

There were 15 students, 7 instructors, 12 new 430 (ranged from 300 to 1400 miles on them) and the program included on both days: classroom driving theory sessions; skid pad work with 2 manual 430; braking/slalom with 430 F1; track laps with 430 F1.

All laps were done on a rotation basis i.e. a student does 3 laps as passenger with an instructor driving then the student drives 3 laps solo but following an instructor driven car, then another 3 laps as passenger then another 3 laps as driver and so on... So, you can see speed was controlled by students always following an instructor. But the instructors were able to determine each driver's capability (and pace) by how well they kept to the racing line etc. Passing of slower instructor driver/student driver teams was allowed. I got up to about 120mph or so, not flat out, but fast enough to keep my attention on this technically challenging (and in some places unforgiving) track.

I've done many driving events and this one was certainly top notch.

The only issue is now I absolutely have to have a 430.

I'm surprised that Carbon (NNO) hasn't asked for the serial numbers of those 430s!!

A bit differant but a friend of mine has just come back from the Ferrari Pilota Driving school, this is the second year he has gone and it was an amazing experience, there are varous courses that cater for differant driver abilites and one learn a lot.....

And of course you get to drive on the hollowed tarmac that is Fiorano, this year as part of the 2nd part of the course they were allowed to drive the 430 challenge car....

Its an expensive course but when you combine it with a factory tour its apparently an unforgettable experience...

Did Skippy at Lime Rock and loved it. Carl Lopez was one of my instructors BTW.

Agreed that is is good to see an Fcar owner looking to imporve their driving skills. BTW, for $550 Gearge (and everyone) can enjoy THREE DAYS at Watkins Glen with the FCA Empire Region and they will provide an instructor.

Sept. 1 - 3. - "Classic Coach Classic" at Watkins Glen. It just doesn't get any better than 3 days at the Glen. The Radisson (607-962-5000) will be the host hotel. Convertibles must have roll over protection (360 & 430 Spiders are acceptable - pop up roll bars are not).

Good for beginners. Over priced and lack of seat time. Hotel, hospitality and classroom were good.
