John, there's a ton of opinions on this if you do a search. From what I can gather, there is no "proper" usage of shields, but only preference. If you like them, then get some. It seems also as if you have a choice between stickers and actual hard badges.

    Good evening John,

If you want to put shields on your car, my suggestion would be to get the resin ones and stick them to some thin magnetic sign material. That way you can put them on the car for fun runs and take them off for shows or if you decide you don't like them. Also, you reduce the chance of damage to your paint. The resin shields have something of a "3-D" look. www.speedgear.com has had them listed recently. As Gilles27 rightly stated - it's all personal preference.

John, It seems that the ceramic shields from ferrari are an option, last I heard was $2,600. The fenders are recessed or embossed so the thick shield is somewhat embedded. I think they look way cool as long as they are not too large. Get a high quality decal and you wont damage the paint when you want to take them off. The 550 in the movie Bad Boys II had stick on shields. You can always tell because the colors are not as vibrant as the real deal. I have however seen some decals that look great.

Or you can go on e-bay and get the Glass Collisson (just like the ones Ferrari sells for 2K) and you can get them for about $250. Use Auto 2 sided tape to put them on (they will not fall off). and they look pretty good. Make sure you get some that have the curvature for the 348.

If you look in my profile you will see what mine looks like on my 355...

PS. Do not put the resin ones on - (they are only 25 bucks which is nice) - but imo - they absolutely look cheap, and not real...
