Just saw this video from Exhaust TV..... Not sure if it has been posted yet, if so sorry. F-15 meets Testarossa: Episode 1 "I recently had the privilege and experience of trading a ride in a USAF F-15 fighter for a drive in my Ferrari Testarossa..." by Al Passori aka callsign ENZO F-15 meets Testarossa: Episode 1 Hey Barton... I would sell my kidney to get a ride in an F-15! Anyone got a hook-up?????????????
Hmmmm, makes me wonder what you'd do for a ride in the Solara. Had you known me when I was younger and smarter back in the 80s, my buddy had a cousin who worked for the Blue Angels ground crew. We used to get VIP passes to all the air shows and would literally travel hundreds of miles to see the events. We had a chance to do a ride in an F-18/B in Daytona Beach one year but the weather wasnt cooperating. Now, unforatunately, I dont really have any "in's" with military but in the context of a certain publication, arrangements may be easily enough done. BHW
I remember seeing on a tv show that you can get a ride in a Russian mig for around $15k. I would not have the first clue as to where to get info on this. BT
A little searching and I found this site offering Mig rides at around $16k and South African site with rides ranging from $5k - $12k. http://www.incredible-adventures.com/ Personally I almost threw up doing steep turns and small dives in a Cessna 152 so these would be way over my comfort range. BT
Morris a friend of mine actually bought a F15 or something similar last year...or had it on consignment and took it up and down palm beach coast a couple times! Thats pimp!
Someone else should recall the name of the outfit, but there is a flight school and "ticket to ride" business in Marathon maybe? The rides in the jet trainer should be a lot cheaper than the Mig rides. KevFla
Paulie, what about your buddy who had some military jet aircraft deal which moved up to Jacksonville? The MiG rides are for real and are popular for tourists visiting Russia. Cant image what you'd do the rest of the time there but a ride in a MiG would be cool. Of course, in Russia, the runways are not maintained so you're apt to have any sort of debris sucked into the air intakes and as we see at the Paris Airshow on a near annual basis, MiG 29s have a propencity for stalls and crashes in certain manouvers as (after all) this is a country which cannot do so much as produce a two line telephone. BHW
Well, the Mig 29 sucks air from the top of the wing for take offs and closes the front openings. You can see in this picture they're closed: http://www.sci.fi/~fta/mig29_012.jpg This picture you can see the vents on top of the wing open right after take off to allow air to flow in from there: http://www.sci.fi/~fta/mig29_09.jpg Another pic: http://www.sci.fi/~fta/efku-29b.jpg Here you can see it in mid flight with the main ones open: http://www.airserbia.com/slike/yu-avioni/MiG-29/L-18_02.jpg They do have the option of taking off with them open or closed depending on the runway like you said.
Yeah, rather than keep their runways clear they put the covers over the intakes. The top Russian air force bases look like the Sebring Municipal Airport did in the early 70s. BHW
