It's not over yet; mathematically, everything is possible. The race last Sunday did show that Mercedes has lost the dominance it enjoyed for so long, and Hamilton expressed some concern. Circumstances have well served Hamilton in the last 2 races, but Ferrari is on the ascent, it seems. I must qualify that by saying that reliability is still not Maranello's strong suit.

Not according to the pit conversation: His team told him that he had enough rubber left to launch a full on attack, which he tried. But DR drives a wide car. Always has.

At the end Vettel had to save fuel too as he burned too much going all out for the whole race. That’s why the team told him to “attack now” with 4/5 laps to go before he had to slow down.

He was possibly also in the frame of mind that he had done enough, and didn't want to push his luck any further, which is fair enough.
Fortunately for him, his luck only flew out of the window on the slow down lap .. ;)

Trust me... its over. You need 3 DNF's from Hamilton in 5 races.

I disagree. Two DNFs would more than suffice. Japan and even Austin might suit the Ferraris better anyhow.

I don't remember Ferrari doing well at COTA. Hasn't that been all Mercedes?

    From the article :
That wasn’t the only conspiracy doing the rounds after that bizarre crash. Some think Vettel crashed deliberately in order to cover something up.

Here are the times for his final five laps:

    Lap 52 – 1:36.279
    Lap 53 – 1:36.365
    Lap 54 – 1:37.454
    Lap 55 – 1:39:368
    Lap 56 – 1:41.345

So a five-second drop-off from Lap 52 to the final lap, was he running out of fuel or was his Ferrari illegally running light? Why did he take his steering wheel with him after the crash ?

Did he intentionally damage the gearbox in order to try and get special dispensation from the FIA (which Ferrari are said to have immediately asked for) to change it without a penalty ahead of the final five races?

Either way you look at it, something doesn’t feel right.

At least [Sa]uber came to his aid…

After 1 semi-serious attempt at getting past DR and then getting hung up in traffic I think they were concerned about his tires, and maybe fuel as well. Looking at his tires after is cool-down lap incident they were looking pretty ragged.

The video shows him trying to put the wheel back on the column, but is having trouble. After a couple attempts, with his ride waiting for him, he appears to say '**** it' and just takes it with him (rather than just leaving it loose in the cockpit).

    https://www.autosport.com/f1/news/132209/no-big-marchionne-changes-at-ferrari--vettel

Ferrari has no plans to make big changes to its organisation following two frustrating Formula 1 weekends, despite its president Sergio Marchionne suggesting that was the case, says Sebastian Vettel.

Vettel and team-mate Kimi Raikkonen were wiped out in an accident on the first lap of the Singapore Grand Prix, while in Malaysia an engine problem consigned Vettel to the back of the grid and prevented and Raikkonen from taking the start.

As a result, Vettel has fallen 34 points adrift of Lewis Hamilton in the drivers' standings while Ferrari trails Mercedes by 118.

After the race, an "angry" Marchionne suggested there were plans for changes to the organisation but when those comments were put to Vettel, he said: "I heard that as well, not from him, but from the press so I'm not sure it's put in the right context.

"But what happens on track, happens on track. The thing that happened in Singapore, I don't think you can take much action.

"We had a problem in Malaysia that stopped myself and Kimi.

"So it is normal you try to understand things and it's normal we have a shift in people.

"But knowing what is going on internally, there is no panic, no big plans as a reaction.

"Maybe it is more a coincidence of events with the interview, but as far as I know nothing big happens."

Conspiracy theories are always fun. And almost always BS.

If it was deliberate, then Stroll had to be in the plot, and both drivers had to calculate the crash to destroy the rear suspension, all in half a second. Ferrari would be risking a working gearbox to get an hipotetical dispensation from FIA...

    Yeaaaah, sureee...

Really a shame the way they threw away the championship the last two races. Pathetic mistakes and car failures pissed it all away.

That said why would you break up the team? They made great strides this season and they have kept up (even beaten) Mercedes in the development race

Maybe, but unlike last year we do have a chance to go out on a high, we have a fast car so just try to win every race. The team (which lost its technical director) has made great strides and Blue Sweaters dark threats sound like he's the one who isn't coping. Hang together and press on !

So last year there were some serious changes and a few people were fired or left for other reasons...All the pessimists over here said that Ferrari will play 3rd or 4th fiddle behnd Mercedes, RB and at least one other team for the years to come.

Now for some reasons it was Ferrari challenging Mercedes and not Red Bull!!!

And now after a crash were we can discuss to the end of days who is to blame and a single technical mistake on both cars that did not show up on the engine tester the solution should be firing even more people, "heads have to roll"???
Seriously??? Give it a break, you do not fire people after a better than expected season because of two races....if this is your style of leadership then you guys are not a jot better than Marchionne you all seem to hate!!!
