Hey guys I like to some in put on this matter. My F12 got into a so called minor accident in March of this year in Florida. The Person in front of my car stoped at the round about and decided to back up looking for a parking space and scuffed my front bumper. About 4 inches. Now my car was being driven by an employee of the garage that was storing the car. The person driving the F12 got nervous and the police wrote an accident report. The report says that car sustained 500.00 in damage. I had the ppf remove with pictures and no damage whatsoever on the paint. Now the car has a bad carfax because of a scuff mark. Do I contact carfax or the officer who wrote the report to try to amend? I really don’t know what my options are. Thanks in advance.
plenty of options. getting it removed from the carfax is probably not one of them. Carfax is doing its job which is correctly reporting that you were in a minor collision. Document and get the garage to pay for diminished value. they were in an accident and their actions caused diminished value. they're at fault. you can contact someone like wreckexpert.com or hire a lawyer if the garage isn't immediately amenable
I wouldn't dismiss trying to work with Carfax to correct the vehicle history and it costs you nothing to submit a claim for a Carfax report correction. I had an issue with the Carfax report for my F12 showing 5 previous owners when there were only 3 and surprisingly found them easier to work with than expected. I managed to collect a detailed history of my car from Florida's DMV that supported my claim, submitted a case to Carfax and they did correct the report without any fuss. It's pretty easy to submit a case online with the ability to upload documents and pictures to support your case. After I submitted the claim, Carfax sent an email confirmation and gave me the option to reply with any additional information they thought would be helpful. Fortunately, the case manager that was assigned to my claim was easy to work with, so that could be a bit of a wild card, but as I said - it costs nothing to try. If you can make a compelling case that the police report was in error and there was literally no vehicle damage, I think it's at least worth a try.
Fair. It definitely costs nothing but your time. And if there was an error on the carfax, I've likewise found their support has been surprisingly good to work with. I had a Cayenne where the air shocks failed and it had to be towed and was mistakenly categorized as "airbags deployed" and it was cleared up with a single email (the receipt that showed it was air shock replacement and not any damage). However, I don't think they're going to support you here. The car was in a collision and a police report was filed as such. Carfax actually has a category to support this exact situation and you could absolutely work with them to change the carfax category to "Accident reported. Involving front impact. Vehicle was not damaged." However, I don't think that's going to accomplish what you want. I personally would talk to the diminished value companies for a free consult, and talk to the garage. In general a minor ding on the carfax is going to cost you about 10% of fair market value on these cars. I'd bring that up to them and see what they want to do. if they aren't playing ball, then go the diminished value company approach and/or hire a lawyer. The garage will have insurance and it's not really handled much differently if they did $20k of damage to the front end or they did $20k of damage to the valuation. Their insurance company will set a diminished value and your lawyer will argue it, etc. You can also file it with your own insurance, but your insurance won't help you with diminished value on a collision caused by someone else. You'll have to go after their insurance directly...
From your post someone backed into your car with another car. Police report filled. Carfax report seems accurate. Not a 'no stories' car at this point. Who cares. Just enjoy the car.
the proper way to deal with this is to get diminished value payment upfront and accept the carfax value hit later. good luck!
Had to dealer with this on my wife's 2018 AMG C63S.... rear bumped replaced is all and it took a $10k hit in value from dealers we got quotes from. We sued the insurance company of the person that hit her for diminished value and won...took over a year, had to hire a lawyer but money for it after lawyer fee to cover about all the diminished value. Last year in Miami my new Mercedes GLE450, my daily work vehicle front bumper was hit in a parking lot, no cameras and the person just left. I came out to a scuffed pushed in 6" circle front bumper cover. Got that replaced but no one to go after. It now has a CarFax on it saying front end damage and when I go to sell/trade it I will get dinged on it. CarFax will not change the wording of this either.
