Ciao, simulators have become quite popular these days. Here's a preview of my favorite Ferrari that I've been working lately. Note that I don't create the 3Ds, textures or graphics, I only work with the car physics programming. The simulator is Assetto Corsa.

    Cheers

The f355 in Assetto Corsa is outstanding and really feels like the real car - the f355 on the Targa Florio in AC is one of my favorite sim experiences. I got to drive the real Targa Florio course, or at least part of it, last summer (but in a rental Opel Mokka) and the sim version is amazingly accurate. Put the two together in AC and it's amazing.

Also - VIR is my home track and I've had my car on it. I can run about 2-3 seconds quicker in the sim, but most of that is lack of any car preservation :). Plus in real life I don't get good braking feel/confidence unlike in the sim.

What version of the F355 did you tested in AC? I'm currently remaking the physics of the version by GADU. It wasn't bad, but it could definitely be improved. I started this one from scratch and remade the suspension geometry and setup. I'm currently using mostly the data from the workshop manual and some public data that I could find. This video was the very first test, so there are still lots to improve. Next step will be to send the suspension geometry to Lotus SHARK so I can optimize it.

I use VIR as my test track because of the IZZE Racing videos showcasing their tyres and brakes temperature sensors. It's handy to have a real reference.

Now please, tell me about your F355. What version is it (Manual/F1, with or w/o power steering, stock/modified?)
    Cheers

I can't remember which version, but there was only one good one out there.

I have a '95, manual with power steering, H&R springs and challenge exhaust.

Here it is at VIR South:

bobzdar That's some pretty good heel toe action.

Thanks for the information and video, it's pretty helpful.

Knowing that you have a power steered car, I should then make that version of the geometry as well. The difference is the caster angle: 5deg+-15' for the Mechanical power steer and 7deg+-10' for the hydraulic one. That extra caster should make the front more responsive with the extra camber gain with steer to compensate for those 13deg16' of KPI.

Edit. I noticed that I made a wrong assumption. Both version are power steered, but one is hydraulic, the other mechanical.

I could use your feedback to improve its physics. If you are interested send me a PM.
    Cheers

There were three steering racks available, all rack and pinion. Unassisted, regular hydraulic assisted, and the challenge/fiorano close ratio hydraulic assisted version. Hardly anyone wanted manual steering, so they discontinued it early on. The close ratio rack came out in '98 or '99 and came standard on fiorano handling pack cars and '99 challenge cars and could be retrofitted to earlier challenge cars, or dealer retrofitted to street cars. It's also very rare, but not as rare as the manual rack.

Once you've perfected the standard car you could look at making an FHP version, which has different springs, sway bars, revised alignment and different shock programming.

Mine has the standard rack. I'll shoot you a PM.

    Thanks for the information.

Yesterday and revised the steering and suspension geometry. It now has the 7deg caster. I'd also sent it to SHARK to get rid of the "margin of error" bumpsteer. I do my suspension geometry in 2D using the workshop manuals schematics, but they are not always very accurate.

I have one question regarding the alignment options for a standard F355. How much camber and toe (min and max) can one set without modifications?

    WIP v2

This version still uses an unknown origin 3d model. There is a possibility that I might be able have an in-house made 3d model.

The current aerodynamics model is still basic and currently only responds to ground effect. This is going to be improved next. I've also reached the limit of the current AC physics engine limits for tires and brake temps, but the solution is the much more complex cphys extended physics, so it's not something that I'm going to be doing right now. It will possibly come later on.
