Hello Pech01, there are no silly questions. As SoCal1 say, the numbers ar knowen. Classiche also for this cars will be a big Point in the future. For '95 cars it is possible, for the others???
You are welcome. Here you find also something: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/challenge-gt-cars/487719-ferrari-serial-numbers-manual-book.html
I was going to clean mine up a little from race days and after getting that phone call at 6 am telling me don't touch it. I am listening
Tim, Thanks for this info. I'm not sure about the thoroughness of detail between 2 and 3. As you know, racing parts have certification shelf lives - correct? What happens when the original seats are swapped out for later year OMP's because in order to race, the original seats are now expired? Many owners tossed the seats. What about other items on safety like fire extinguishers that have expired. Our F355 challenge will be heading back to the track so it has been updated along the way with new parts. I doubt the guys on track want a '95 fire extinguisher. What about drilled vs slotted rotors? We will be going slotted... I think classiche might not be a good thing for the challenge cars unless they allow for safety improvements. Otherwise it's a museum exercise. Curious as to more info. Thanks for posting more as you find out. Robb
Sorry, don't agree, Classiche will be more and more important, also for our CH cars. I will do if for a 355 CH 1995, car raced till and won the 2000 Championship. For my 348 Champion '93 Challenge I have the Classiche. Car was built '89, raced in '93 and '94, still in Period condition. Also a Big point will be the correct enginenumber. There is a special thread About CH and Classiche: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/challenge-gt-cars/473274-challenge-cars-ferrari-classiche.html
It would be very interesting to see a list of the actual "real" challenge car VINs. With the prices being where they are and are going, someone may get burned with an imitation.
I was looking in that virtual book of serial numbers and there are close to 300 355 challenge vins in there. Over the years I've heard that there were only 108(ok 109) challenge cars. Weird that nobody seems to know for sure. There are also 3 GTS challenge cars in there. How in the world can a GTS be a challenge car?
It will be interesting to see how many are owners of imitation challenge cars when somebody gets the VINs on here.......some day. I have a letter from Ferrari stating that mine is a challenge race car and cannot be titled for the road.
I have the book, it's not a bible just collected info I did find a few mistakes with just cars in my and my partners stable. From 250 to 355's
From what I have seen in just a couple of hours, that book is full of errors upon errors and completely useless. I know my road car was bought here in Toronto and yet it is listed as American. It would seem that this book is a collection of hearsay and nothing more.
The 109 number is what has been published in the back of Cavallino magazine. That number is wrong, probably just the number of cars assembled at the factory. Based on "in period" records, there where at least 254 F355 Challenge cars. The majority of F355 Challenge race cars where created when a local Ferrari importer ordered a Berlinetta and the kit of F355 Challenge parts and then put them together, the end result is exactly the same ( it had to be to be eligible ) There where advantages in doing this - the road car bits could be sold to reduce the cost, and the concessionaire could keep a "kit in stock" rather than a race car, that kit could also be used as a source of spares to support race cars. (The kit part numbers in the Challenge parts book ). You're correct, a GTS cannot be a race compliant F355 Challenge car.
And here we have a "fake" 355 Challenge for sale... Which "in period" records are you referring to? You number is quite precise so I would assume it comes from a serious source. I think that would be great if you could share that with us. Best
I am not the seller, I only want to Show this here. This is no Challenge car... It makes the People believe it is one ;-)
F355 Challenge 1995, great Racing History, not street legal, for sale in France. Asking is Eur 200.000,-- http://www.mmc-paris.com/uk/collection-car/announcement-ferrari-56/announcement-355-challenge--551.html Image Unavailable, Please Login
This is an obvious one as it dosnt have the wing, brakes, tow hooks, race seats, roll cage or cut off switch just to name a few. This scam is for the very ignorant buyer.
And the wheels .... Well at least the grille and badge are correct Pretty difficult (perhaps impossible these days ?) to find all the bits required to re-create a Challenge car.
