Hi All,I’m taking the engine out for a major service and will do the valve guides + valves while it’s out can anyone tell me what’s the best cylinder head gaskets to use ?. I’ve heard that Elring gaskets are troublesome I’m thinking Toda racing head gaskets . On the guides and valves I’m going with Supertech parts.

Some are better than others though...

I've installed some Murray Glegg gaskets, these are the best (do not know if he makes gaskets for the 355), but had no issue with Erling or Victor Reinz.

On the later two I sprayed a thin layer of hilomar on the gasket (avoiding the firing ring).

Don' t forget to start the engine without coolant and stop it once the laser gun reaches 80°c: this allows to settle the gasket (excellent tip from Murray!)

I use the Ferrari on every one I have done, not sure how many that is but it is 10 or so. No issues at all, nothing. I have had a couple bad studs. I used Ferrari replacement parts there too. I will say that cleaning it key. I use a razor blade and scrape everything off the surface and the cylinders get cleaned with scotchbrite pad to get everything off.

Don't over think it. Be sure to buy quality gaskets and then get the heads torqued correctly, if you are diy, it's a little tricky but definitely doable.

Use a cleaner that leaves 0 residue, that is also key to get a seal on the water jackets. 99% Isopropyl alcohol works well.

Thanks for all your comments and help so far . I also briefly run the engine to help the gasket varnish dry seal this method always worked well for me over the many engine rebuilds I’ve done .After doing a bit of research The Victor Reinz gaskets (also German made) seem like a good alternative but I may just stump up for the solid gold Ferrari ones ! I’m looking forward to getting the engine out after summer driving and carrying out the work over winter . Driving and maintenance is what I enjoy about owning a fantastic engaging car like this , lots of people on Ferrari chat have been very kind and helpful to me over the years Thank you :)
