A question for the electronics/instrument experts (if I may)

The "Hall" type speed sensor on the F355 gearbox sends a square wave signal on a red/white wire to an input pin/contact on the speedometer where it is processed and used to drive the analog display. However, the speedometer also has an output pin/contact which goes to the F1 ECU (if applicable), the Suspension ECU and the Motronics ECU(s) on a white/yellow wire. External splices distribute the signal to these other user systems. Ref: Wiring Diagram Figure 5 in the Workshop Manual

Does the speedometer amplify or modify the square wave in any way prior to sending it to the other systems?

A speed sensor failure can cause problems with the speedo and with other systems, but can a speedo internal failure also cause these problems? (because the signal goes through the speedo). Unfortunately, it's not really practical to attach an oscilloscope to the car (especially with the car in motion).

    Thanks.

Basically, the speedo divides the frequency of the signal coming from the sensor by 2 before sending it to others systems (suspension, TCU, Motronic).
Yes, a failure in the speedo (eg. the 4024 IC which is used for the frequency division) can cause problem to the other systems which need a speedo signal.
