Sorry, I do not understand what you are talking about. What environment are you talking about? Marcel Massini
I think we are saying the same thing. The f40 sale yesterday was strong in my opinion- are you of the opinion that the car shld have done better?
Scuds, Speciales, 296s have a completely different market from that of the Ferrari Supercars such as 288 GTO, F40, F50, Enzo, different also from the market of the 599 GTO or F12 TDF. I think the sale of the 20k kms (13k miles) standard NCNA F40 86097 for $2.4m was a good result and was as expected, once again, the market speaks.
US-spec #92396 has popped up again and will be offered by Mecum in January. This car has been repeatedly mentioned in this thread as well as on the F40 photos thread because it has been shown and marketed numerous times in the last 3 years. A few months ago, it was sold by GT Motorcars, and a few months before that, it failed to sell at Bonhams Amelia. By numerous accounts it's supposed to be an excellent example, not sure why it keeps bouncing around. https://www.mecum.com/lots/1102480/ Mecum has done well with F40 examples in the last couple Kissimmee sales, achieving a then second highest ever public sale in 2022 and a then fourth (still fifth) highest public sale in 2023. Perhaps this is why the consignor chose Mecum. It is an excellent example indeed, we sold it once a long time ago, I too am surprised to see it come back up for sale.
Andrew you posted the RM link in the generic F40 thread, I think it belongs here too rmsothebys.com Some past market-related links for this F40: www.bonhams.com check the estimates. www.motorsportmagazine.com www.dkeng.co.uk www.instagram.com collectorstudio.com
Good point, I didn't post about it in this thread because my market report only covers standard road cars, but I think the discussion for the race cars can belong in this thread anyway. This is the first time one has been offered publicly since this thread was created. I'm sure you yourself already know this, but for those who don't check Hammer Price and didn't watch the stream on YouTube (starting at 2:43:33), F40 GT #85690 was bid to $2.8m USD in Las Vegas on Friday and didn't sell (still for sale if you're looking). With premium, this would have sold at $3,085,000 had the reserve been met. As Joe shared, the same example was offered in February 2006 by Bonhams, but at that point in time, the car was in (mostly) standard road spec, in between its period racing GT spec and today's (mostly) racing GT spec. According to SCM, it was bid to $234,900 USD equivalent, which according to me would have been $270,135 with premium. Adjusted for inflation, that is $418,000 today. So a 638% increase in real dollars then to today...not bad! Of course acknowledging the spec difference between offerings. I saw this example in Las Vegas myself on Wednesday - it was my first time seeing a GT. I was surprised how similar it looked to a regular European F40 up close, which I guess makes sense when you consider what these cars really are and how they were created. Thanks Joe for sharing the various links. Amusing that RM notes in its auction description that the bodywork is largely original save for the front clip, and meanwhile the original front clip is separately for sale from another vendor! Somebody needs to reunite these.
Pls keep in mind that 85690 was born as a stock standard road car and only a year later modifed. Marcel Massini
Not only that, it was born an emissions-friendly catalyst F40. This one comes with the 3-piece Schedoni luggage. Correct.
I updated the analysis through the end of 2023 and made numerous small improvements including rewrites for clarity and some re-organization. https://datadriven.autos/market-analysis/ferrari-f40/ I also added a section that is sure to pique some people's interest - a comparison of F40 values to those of the 288 GTO, F50, Enzo, and LaFerrari. Here I dipped my toes into the dubious world of vehicle 'market caps' - have some fun with it. https://datadriven.autos/market-analysis/ferrari-f40/#flagship-supercars The next update will be after Amelia Island/ModaMiami/Glendale in March. Two F40s are confirmed so far for between now and then, both from Mecum: US-spec #92396 being offered this coming weekend in Florida, and fellow US-spec #91097 in March in Arizona. Both of these cars have been to auction recently, with #91097 actually holding the second-highest public sale ever for an F40 ($3,855,000 USD @ RM Sotheby's Monterey 2022). It will be interesting to see how the car performs against that result after adding just 40 miles. Your work is an unbiased invaluable contribution to the Ferrari Supercar market, Bravo, and keep up the good work in 2024.
Wow. Insane pricing. Where do people find such money (and in such world conditions…) but I guess both seller and buyer are happy, so good for them.
