While I completely agree with you, I believe RM had the F40 at one of their long form digital auctions, where it recently no-saled.

For some reason I mixed it up with a Monterey listing. Appreciate the clarification.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out in the near future say 1-4 years. I believe that time frame will hold the definitive answer. Cheap is a relative term. 250 GTOs were “cheap” at one time or another also with “stories”... albeit race stories for the most part. Original, authentic F40s will find their place in the stratosphere. It is only a question of when and how much, not if and “the story” behind the car.

There are too many F40s for there not to be a significant delta between excellent and poor examples. The floor will rise, but a $1M+ spread will probably maintain. That being said, when that floor rises to a certain level, these cars will all be kept in garages and never seen again on public roads.

My F40 has over 70,000 kms and is mechanically and cosmetically very good. Not only did I save ~$1M vs a low mileage example, but I can drive it another 10,000+ kms without putting a dent in its value relative to low mileage cars.

    Pay less, enjoy more :D

I've put about 8000 km on my car in almost 3 years. It started with 9800 km. Insurance values it at $750k more than I paid. I don't think anyone loses in F40 ownership.

So it sold for €2.1m in 2023 and they have the estimate at €2.4m-€2.8m?

Will be interesting to see what happens.

I am seeing around 9 % on the currency move as a deciding factor and a general increase of around 10 -15 % on a couple of cars we are trying to entice the owners to sell mainly on the F50 and GTO front. Inflation is causing a few issues as well.. The politicians keep telling us its around 3.5 % but it seems a lot higher on general spending especially in the UK.

the camera lens makes it a bit more difficult to discern, but that looks to me like a series 2 GTO....
