Hello everyone, long time lurker on this forum, after living all my life in Dubai, UAE I have recently moved back to Italy, unfortunately no Fcar in Italy yet and I have just sold my FF out in Dubai. I purchased a warehouse out of an estate and I have found (as the son of the ex owner described) a Ferrari development engine (was also told it was for the F430). Any chance anyone can help me identify it and/or if it is worth anything? As you can see from the pictures the engine was to be destroyed (as anything that is a development part) therefore you can see where the scrap handler(?) picked up the engine from as theres a hole in the head.
And the photos. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
A 430 develpment engine is usually called a 458 engine. I am sure it is very close to a 9000rpm red line 458 engine. espcially with the high pressure fuel pump present in the 1st photo
Thank you for your help, unfortunately I could not gather much info on the engine from the son of the ex-owner. Do you think it is worth anything?
If you want to liquidate it. First you need to plug all holes of the engine. Given time, foreign objects can be fallen into these holes and render the engine really useless.
Yes, there is damage present on the engine as it was destined for destruction. I was told a staff member of Ferrari was present at the scrapyard to make sure the engine was destroyed, hence the operator causing damage to it. I have no idea how it ended up in a private collection...
When we found the engine, it was plugged with tape, we removed it to take the photos and re-plugged in the same manner, though given the size of the holes on the heads, I am sure something has fallen in the engine. Another detail i forgot to mention, apparently this engine was used for engine dyno tests.
in most cases, the engine is still good, just a guess. If you can ask somebody to dissembly it, even just remove the 2x heads . it will tell you how healthy the engine is. It takes about 2 hours, 1 hour with an able person with the correct tools.
Yes I think that’s the next step to be honest. I thought it was cool to have a development part, hence me starting this thread. My father wanted to scrap it Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
As I live in Modena I’ll have a Ferrari specialist look over it and tell me what it is. I’ll report back! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
458 engine. The oil pump is belt driven whereas on the final product Ferrari went back to a chain once again.
I'd love to have BaT auction, I actually started a "business" where I restore and sell Lamborghini tractors, but BaT hasn't accepted any of my auctions so far unfortunately
Unfortunately I’ve been denied a BaT auction before, so I doubt I’d get accepted this time. Aaaand I would probably be eaten alive Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
there is a Lamborghini tractor on BaT now! https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1962-lamborghini-5ctl-tractor-3/
Saw it, I have just finished restoring the same exact tractor as that one! Image Unavailable, Please Login Mine also has the training wheels Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
there is a Lamborghini tractor on BaT now! it also looks similar to a California engine, like it was intended for a front engine car with the housing at the rear where the transmission would normally go.
The bell housing apparently is where the engine was attached to the engine dyno, as the head covers aren’t red and the oil pump is belt driven and not chain driven I believe it’s an engine used by the factory for some sort of testing! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
