I'm considering buying 2009 Ferrari F430 Scuderia. In addtional, I want to upgrade exhaust system to straight pipe exhaust. I wanted to make sure that it's is legal in CT and all of New england?

In Connecticut any exhaust modification is technically considered illegal, regardless of if you still retain your CAT or not. With that said, most people still do it anyway. I say, have at it.

it's only illegal if you get caught :D My 355 is a bit loud, never had a problem. My STi is obnoxiously loud, once got a written warning and had to put the stock exhaust back on and go to DMV for an inspection. I would suspect on an exotic like a 430 scud no cop would stop you for exhaust too loud.

You WILL need to pass emissions though...I believe you get a pass for 4 yrs, after that you get tested every 2 yrs and will need cats on for that.

Is it every 2 years? And being OBDII he wouldn't need a CAT to pass emissions. For emissions in Ct they only hook an OBDII car up to the scanner to see if it's throwing any codes. OBI cars are hooked up to a sniffer though and are required to pass that.

Though I agree in regards to no cops really bothering you much at all about your exhaust. All but my current car have had a modified exhaust in some manner and the only times I was hassled was when I was doing something else and the cop was more-or-less cutting me a break.

In regards to the "warning" tickets, a state cop I went to college with said they don't mean anything and just go on your record in a given town in case they pull you over again, it will only matter in that one town though; so really a written "fix it" ticket for an exhaust is useless as well! Just a handy piece of information :).

I should note that I had gotten a fix-it ticket once for my exhaust back in 2004 or 2005; it says you have 30 days (correct me if I'm wrong) to fix the infraction or you'll lose your registration. I went in well after 30 days and they didn't say a thing to me about it.

True on the OBDII, but without cats you'll need some trick to pass like a wired in resistor or spacer. I haven't had to worry about that on the 355, I have sport cats.

On the exhaust warning, whatever I got it said I had 30 days to fix it. No biggie, just took some wrenching :D

True with the CATs! I don't know if there's any provided work around for the Ferrari's with that or what.

Yeah those 30 day slips can just as easily be ignored. It'll go on file in that town (usually, though not always) that you were given one and other than that it doesn't mean much else. Just a pain if a person plans on swapping the aftermarket exhaust right back on.

In MA we no longer use sniffers, so 1995 and older vehicles are safety and visual inspection...

Everything else is plug in OBDII and that is easily fooled.

I think 1997 is the cutoff now, 96 and older is just a visual test for smoke/safety

Here in VT it is illegal, but you prob wont get trouble from 5-0 unless your redlining it through an urban neighborhood at 2am. But it def wont pass inspection with strait pipes.

may I ask why you want them? The difference between a "performance tuned exhaust" w/ high flow cats and strait pipes is minimal. Only on a track might you use the additional performance, and even then, I doubt it.
