Ferrari F599 released today. Looks pretty ghastly to my eyes, especially those buttreses. Jaguar XJS anyone? Perhaps it will grow on me. Is this really all Pininfarina can do now, or is shape of the car so pre-ordained in the wind-tunnel that no amount of fettling will fix it?

Still 620 bhp is a stormer and excellent power to weight.

I think they should have looked at the heritage of its desgin before naming it , this may have been more suitable

    Ferrari 599 Hyundiacoupe-Nissan350z-Corvette-BMWz4-XJS GTB

No doubt it will sell out for the first year or two of production before sticking on the forecourt like the 612 seems to be doing

The question is are Lambourghini going to be intelligent enough to pitch the Miura against the 599GTB (what happened to naming models all of a sudden) and a front engined GTB! talk about loosing your heritage!

Is it only me that thinks its weird that all the magazines are talking about the Miura as a competitor to the Enzo...how can a 60's retro look be anywhere near aerodynamic enough to compete with a 21st century wind tunnel derived design - weirdos...far more sensible to price the Miura against the 575M etc. in my opinion. Given the "fresh" 599GTB I would say the Miura would go down a storm.

The original Muira went head to head with the Daytona arguably the greatest Ferrari ever and front engined, and the outcome was that the Daytona was the winner, the heritage of Ferrari does not lay with mid engined cars, Enzo despised anything that was not front engined and fought hard against producing a mid engined car, when he relented and gave the go ahead for a mid engine car (206) the car never wore a Ferrari badge, anyway i love the looks of the 599 in the same way i like the 612 both great designs IMO.

By then the Ferrari badged 250lm had already been produced and won Le-Mans in 1965......The reasoning behind the Dino badge and brand was that Ferrari's customers wouldn't accept a V6 when up to that point Ferraris road going cars had traditionaly been V12's (with the exception of sports racers like the 750 Monza's and Mondial's)
By the time the Muira went into production Ferrari & Pininfarina had already produced a few mid engined V12 prototypes/show cars.....The Daytona was always percieved to be the last of the front engined cars, even whilst it was being developed

I know mate but i believe the 206 was the first mid engined car designed sorely for road use.

well I actually like it a lot. Lots of aggression in the design. Can't wsait to see it in teh metal.

Just hope that it is one of those cars that looks better in the metal than on paper
