All fine and dandy...but the F8 is still a "catch-up" car with regards to the competition. The Pista should have been the true 488 facelift/replacement until 2021 and priced at $325k-ish; at which point, it would be the front runner against the others. Rather, this stopgap F8 doesn't stop the gap.
It does appear the days of Ferrari’s being minimal clean designs might now only apply to the icona range... I understand with the amount of aero and engineering more details need to be addressed I still feel it can be done elegantly. The 812 could be very elegant however has soo many details that they detract from one another losing visual impact. On the whole I feel the F8 is pretty good and can’t wait to see one in person. In general I like it but think a couple details I don’t like and some things I just don’t get like why leave the side intake and doors basically untouched. Yes yes I’m sure they had a budget etc but cmon... Also I will say in regard to this car. I don’t blame them for building again on this platform. The platform has been unbelievably fantastic both on the street and on the track. I think the next gen V6 and V8 will blow our minds and if they can sell some F8’s while those two platforms are being perfected then so be it.
Speaking of details, I'm sure the three little vents in the front bumper do serve a purpose in terms of aero efficiency, but I don't really "feel" them.. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I own a 458 and wait for a Ferrari that will make me want to replace the 458. But unfortunately it still does not happen because Ferrari has not yet launched a vehicle that is fundamentally different from the 458. I'm still staying with the wonderful 458 and waiting for Ferrari make a car that's completely different from 458 Image Unavailable, Please Login
All the 'catch-up' BS talk is cheap, ultimately the only metric that matters will be the sales and profitability numbers that will determine a models relative success amongst it's peers. I would still wager that the F8 will out sell anything that Lambo or Mac throw at it (no offence intended to either as they all make wonderful cars).
i meant the design of the 2 bumper holes of f8- not the full front. They are influenced by the fxxkevo....
I think I’ll take a wait and see attitude. I think I’ll put down a deposit on a spider for now and see how much better the F8 is compared to my 488 spider. I’ll drive a GTB and make my decision then. At this point I can’t comment intelligently. Best ,Kirk.
I owned a 2015 458, then I sold that and purchased a 2016 488, sold it after 3 months and purchased a 2014 italia which is my weekend car as I daily a 570s. My neighbor has a 720s which I drive frequent we swap cars. Mclarens straight up are more powerful, and are much better handling then the ferrari. When people talk about 720s vs 488 it's a joke the mclaren bests it in any performance related category. However The 570s along with the 720s eventhough both are beasts they still lack the emotion, sound, rawness and how the car connects with the driver experience. I personally think mclaren ruined ferraris brand. Ferrari was known to make cars that feel special, that are absolutely beautiful and gorgeous cars that connect with the driver and make you enjoy just taking the car on a cruise even if its 5 miles away. Lamborghini didn't budge to mclaren, but ferrari did and in the process is ruining there brand. I've never been a lamborghini fan but sadly the 458 might be my last ferrari I can see myself upgrading the 570 to a 720s and the 458 to a huracan evo.
An F150 outsells any Ferrari with regards to sales and profitability. Your point here? Because an F8 might make more profit for Ferrari than a Performante may for Lamborghini means the F8 is automatically better?
I hope so because It's really a beautiful color. I've seen a 488 Spider painted in this color and It was absolutely gorgeous!
If that happens it will help the used 488 market which has been hammered. The F8 looks nice but the 488 will be a much better buy. Heck, tune the 488, tighten the suspension and you are way ahead.
Blu Mirabeau for this F8? IN any event the 'blu' customers are delighted. Ferrari does seem to be dipping into the old colors catalog. Perhaps we will next see an F8 Spider in Rosso Fiorano...
Go drive the 720 and make your own opinion. Those who have them already know the answer, best to come to your own conclusion.
Vents, I presume, have the same function as the similarly located openings on the Pista which were derived from Challenge cars. So presumably the F8 has carried over the Pista's front radiator layout - and in fact, I believe, all the other Pista aero improvements - but with a new wrapping on everything. Just goes to show how much styling can vary while maintaining a similar (functionally) aero layout. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I completely disagree with this statement considering the fact that 488/F8 power plant is a turbo engine and 458 is a NA car. I do understand if you are referring to the chassis /platform. It's been practically unchanged but it's so good; why would you change? From the appearance stand point, totally subjective. To me the F8 is the best looking one from the front, looking straight to the rear end, it looks fantastic even though from some angles the back looks like a Lotus and somewhat awkward.
True, even if in this round the "gray army" is a bit disappointed No Argento or Alluminio for us this time! In my opinion, It's not that bad. I still remember when I saw the first leaked shot of the Pista and thinking "WTH is that thing?!" (the S-Duct), but I fell in love with its design when I saw the Argento demo car. Truly a masterpiece in my opinion. The only way to appreciate the design, the proportions and the "presence" of the car is to see it in the flesh. Thanks for the explanation, much appreciated. I'm sure everything will make more sense when Ferrari releases their usual technical videos in a few days, so even a "noob" like me can understand what's going on from an aerodynamic perspective!
