Does any one know what percentage of each color the factory produces, and does it average out to about the same for each model? What I mean is, what percentage is Rossa Corsa, what percentage is Nero, etc.???

Since nearly every Ferrari is pre-sold, I would assume the customer chooses the colors, so there is not really a set number they make in certain colors. Obviously the Rossa's in the different hues make the majority of sales, but there are so many colors out there it's hard to know what the averages would be per color. You gotta think the Red's are probably 40-60% though by themselves. The Greens, Whites, and Blues would be among the lower percerntages I would think and the silvers, blacks and yellow would be in between.

From what I have seen, it varies a lot by model.

For the 308/328, a huge majority of them are rosso corsa, probably because of the Magnum influence. For the 550/575, I would bet less than 25% of them are red.

For definitive figures, an inquiry to the Ferrari Owners' site might turn something up. I've yet to see any definitive stats.

Thanks for the replies, guys... I was just curious... I didn't know that all the cars were pre-sold... interesting.

I'll likely be making a trip to the factory next summer on an Italy/Greece swing... may be a good question to have in my back pocket for the tour guide.

One of the features of the 355 Registry (link is www.ferrari355registry.com) is to track specific characteristics of the cars in a database and produce statistical summaries of all the cars posted, such as the counts of each exterior color of the cars. The 355 Registry currently has 3513 cars posted in it (out of the total 11,373 Ferrari 355 cars built from 1994 to 1999). 2979 of those 3513 entries in the registry have a known exterior color recorded in the database. The exterior color statistics below are calculated across those 2979 cars.

The 355 Registry is run by 285Ferrari (Robbie) and there is an fchat thread about it at http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=123485. The first post in that thread is from Oct 2006. Much thanks goes to him for taking on such a large project and gathering so much data.

Here is the current summary of Ferrari 355 car exterior colors from the registry:

    Percent Color

    57.2% Rosso Corsa
    6.81% Giallo Modena

    0.03% Blu Medio Metallico
    0.03% Prugna Metallico
    0.03% Rosso Rubino
    0.03% Giallo

There are additional interesting statistics on the following web pages within the registry:

    - http://www.ferrari355registry.com/Ferrari_Statistics.asp?pDV=B (Basic car data with counts by years, models, transmissions, and keywords)

    - http://www.ferrari355registry.com/Ferrari_Statistics.asp?pDV=C (Color data for exterior colors, interior colors, and spider top colors)

    - http://www.ferrari355registry.com/Ferrari_Statistics.asp?pDV=L (Location data for counts by country and State within USA)

For each value in the statistics, the user can click on the value and see the subset of cars that share that characteristic. For example, if you click on "MD" in the State location data, you can see the entries for the 14 cars that are located in the State of Maryland.

I wish we had this kind of detailed data for all the Ferrari models.
