Visited Maranello in november and stayed at the Planet Hotel just across the street from the "old entrance" to the Ferrari factory and woke up to this happening sunday morning. Some go to church this morning and some are "praising their other belief"...
Other then that, visiting the three big automobile manufactures in Modena area was an unbeliveable experience.

Hello SL. We are taking then TR over to Italy next July after the Le Mans Classic. May I ask what your hotel was like? Is it a good one to stay at? Expensive or reasonable? And does it have parking?

We also looked at the Maranello Ferrari Hotel:

    http://www.hotelmaranellovillage.com/en/hotel/hotel.html

but cannot decide whether this may be a bit tacky and over the top, not in a good way?

    Any suggestions gratefully received.

I am not sure whether the museum will be open or not but my main purpose is to get a shot of the car outside the factory gates :)

I have stayed at the Planet Hotel and Hotel Europa a couple of times. The Maranello Ferrari Hotel was not there when I was last in Maranello. The Planet is a perfectly reasonable hotel. It was quite new when I stayed. The rooms are not huge, but everything you need is there. The thing I liked most about the hotel was the views from the room over the factory. A Ferrari Club was visiting the morning I woke there and I got some great pictures of the cars as they were driving past the factory. A great way to wake up!

Thanks for the info Anthony. I'm just trying to work out which would be the best option from a sense of occasion and fun point of view. Just thought that parking a GB Testarossa up outside the Ferrari hotel might be quite nice :)

Don't want to stay there if it is a bit, how shall we say, of dubious taste though :D

over three years ago we went to the factory as well and stayed at the Planet Hotel, they gave us the best room which is on the top floor corner building with a large balcony facing the front entrance of the factory and the entrance for the Restorante, and part of the race trac. If you guys are planning to go there, try and get this room.

Staying at the Planet Hotel was great in many ways. Nice room, ok breakfast in the morning- this is where the testdrivers and F1 guys stay all the time. Fees were acceptable. And excellent location in general- walking distance to everything- five minutts to the Ferrari Museum and to the company where we rented some "cavallino to play with in the mountains". I had a 458 Italia along the twisted mountainroads and kept on smiling the whole trip. Look for Pit Lane Red Passion. They have 599 GTB, 458, 430 Scuderia, 430 spider, 3-4 Californias for rent. It was a blast!!!

The Planet is a 2-3 star hotel with clean small rooms but being right across the street from the factory is nice. Just walk across the street to take your tour. Call and see if Franco, the general manger, is still there. He is one of the most accomodating hoteliers I have ever met. He provided secure parking in their garage ( with large oversized spaces) below the hotel for our car and my cousin's car who drove down from Torino to take the tour with my wife and myself. The Planet is not the Ritz, but Franco makes you feel as if it were.

Nice Shot! It is really a nice start for a day when your room is having the view of the Ferrari Factory. :)

This year I did not have a corner room but the one in the middle also overlooking the factory entrance. It's a big room with two double beds but the balcony is not very large.
I looked at the hotel plan on site and this room was bigger than the other ones on the same floor (not top floor).

We just left Maranello on December 10th and stayed at the Planet Hotel also. Room 503 is the one that miketuason is talking about and it is the one that we reserve every time we go there. I have not tried the others, so I can't make a comparison.

If you want an easy way to tour all of the factories as well as the private Panini Maserati Collection, try Motorstars.org. Franchesco is a great guy and has "ins" with all of the museums and factories. He can get you in to things you may not be able to see otherwise or will at least save you a bunch of coordination. I am not big on "tours", but his van is for small groups so you will not feel like a cattle call at each stop. In fact, the time that my wife and I used him, we were the only two on his tour. I don't have a Ferrari (yet) so I'm not sure about touring the Ferrari factory.

One note of caution if you visit the Ducati Factory in Bologna on your own: be careful when parking in the factory lot. It is not in the best neighborhood and we were careless and left a backpack on the front floor which caused our rental car to get broken into. The tour was excellent though with plenty of free time to look at the museum after the guided tour.

Also, the Nuvolari museum in Mantova is just an hour North of Maranello. It is a small collection but has his trophies from the famous 1935 German Grand Prix and 1930 Mille Miglia which were worth the trip by themselves. Mantova is a great small town also, so it made a great day out.

    Hope this helps.
