You can see clearly all the factory buildings and the whole pista di fiorano - the test track.
across the street from the factory entrance is the cavallino restaurant, the panet hotel and nearby the gestione sportiva - the F1 developing department.
you can see carozzeria zanasi and toni auto - two very important, but small and dusty workshops, and of course the galleria ferrari.
it´s very interesting to see the google-earth view, after having visited maranello a few times.

    Neil,
My girlfriend (now wife) did the Maranello trip as a birthday present for me a few years back. We flew BA to Bologna then hired a car, we stayed in the hotel in the square at Maranello.
I thoroughly enjoyed my time in Maranello. I know in hindsight that I missed quite a bit (this website wasn't around when I went) - I have since learnt that there are better restaurants to visit than the Cavallino but I enjoyed it (overall the food is superb in the area) The Galleria is very good. Peering off the bridge onto the Fiorana test track is obligatory.
Its also well worth driving out to Modena which is really interesting, there also some really nice smaller towns & villages in the area.
Once our kiddies are a little older I intend getting back out there again.

348 Spider in this thread mentions the small independent workshops that are in the area. I have read that these workshops are very interesting and often have some interesting cars in for work.

The Lambo factory - missed that...

As I said in my previous post I wished I had visited the other restaurant.

I was there on a F1 race weekend - the Fiorano test track was deadly quiet, would have loved to have been there midweek when there was a chance that some testing was underway. That must create a real buzz when you can hear that wail in the distance... Also being there primarily over a weekend we did see a few F's on the road but these were visitors cars not cars being road tested by the Factory.

What I did see though was a German take a 355 through a car wash - I was gobsmacked!

gotta do it by hand, that should be in the clause when you buy one!

was it expensive to stay in the village itself?

    Didn't cost me a penny!

When I went which was probably 5 years ago the hotel in the square was nothing fancy and I think was quite reasonably priced. Things may have changed. My wife booked it over the web.

maranello is cheap. it´s just a small town with lots of working peole. only the ferrari-connected things are pricey. forget the official ferrari-shop. its too expensive.
the planet hotel is nice and clean - perfect location and affordable. the other hotels are cheaper - but dont expect too much.
cavallino and montana restaurants are worth a visit. they are full of pictures, helmets, engines and many ferrari items. the other restaurants as domus are much cheaper with less atmosphere.
if you want to buy ferrari-model cars - try the small toy shop at the roundabout in the city-center. its well sorted and much cheaper than warm up and the others.

We went last year after the Monaco GP. On the thuesday they were testing quite a lot at Fiorano (600 Imola/599 Fiorano, F1 2005, 575 GTC Giesse team). No wail in the distance - the whole air was filled with F1 sounds! I guess the people of Maranello don't mind...;)

We're going again during this year's Mille Miglia. If you hang around the side gate you'll see many Ferraris being road tested and the occasional prototype if you're lucky.

    Ciao, Peter

    Ciao, Peter[/QUOTE]

sometimes you can hear the F1 sound but there are no cars on the fiorano track. ???
solution: the F1 department - gestione sportiva is test running the engines on the dynos and the exhaust goes trough the roof of the building. this happens even at nighttime and on weekends.

That is so cool! I would love to see an f1 engine being dyno tested.
