I was just wondering if anybody else has a letter like this, from the office of the production car plant manager. Was this standard operating procedure or a rare occurence? The letter was sent to the original owner of my 308, who purchased the car directly from Chinetti in New York.

I have one from the general director as well. Dated 1977. I have another requesting the original owner participate in a survey of sorts

I have a copy of the letter Ferrari sent to an old friend of mine apoligising for not being able to produce the 250 Berinetta he had ordered. A similar letter for the 500 Superfast that was ordered. But they sent him a nice picture of the one they sent to Bill Harah

Wow, that's really neat. Even better that it was kept with the car and not sold on Ebay for a few dollars.

I think this letter is really neat too, and pretty rare I guess. To have survived with the car for a little over thirty years is amazing. This was basically a one owner car when I got it so the paperwork is very complete, bill of sale, window sticker etc., even the original loan documentation, 17% interest rate and a little over $1100 a month payment, in 1979! Amazing. Thank you for your responses. Any additional information concerning these letters is appreciated.

Someone should reprint them with the current owners name, it would look good framed on my office wall

I have a letter like that from 1978 signed by Piero Fusaro, along with several hand written letters apologizing for the fact that the original owner would not be allowed to drive the car to the airport for shipping to the USA due to the unavailability of unleaded gas. The original owner also requested that the electric window controls be made "like the 246 Dino" on the console, which the factory stated was not possible. He even drew diagrams for switch placements, and asked if the "particular white painting" would dis-color. One of these days I should post many of the other documents I have as they are written in Italian.

Brian, the build record and factory correspondence is quite facinating for your car and in a different league from a simple thank you letter. Your factory special order 308 harks back to the 50's and 60's, when many Ferraris were built to the buyers specification, and helps to remind us that the "lowly" 308 was indeed largely hand-built and quite special in its own right. I first encountered your car at the New Hope, Pa. car show in the early 1990's and to see it turn up at Peter Sweeney's many years later with that low milage and exact same specification was very interesting indeed. Thanks for posting.

Met Gary Rodriguez a few times. The first head of FNA that actually was interested in having a good relationship with the US Ferrari clubs (FOC and FCA). He left FNA to have a Chevy dealership in the LA area.

I guess letters like these are a rare occurrence these days? They're a nice touch IMO.

Really nice! A little jewel to be preserved with the car. Is a part of the history of the car.
